Thread regarding IBM layoffs

What are we even doing anymore?

We should all just start doing the bare minimum. We're going to be cut anyhow. Might as well fu-k them over somewhat before then.

IBM India HR Poster, you got that right - anyone who makes out to be what they are not deserves all the contempt in the world. No, not trolling for upvotes, just want to show the world what a horrible place IBM really has become to work at these days, and steer away US folks from the garbage workplace that IBM has become under Alvind and the Pi%pmunks. So take your contrarian opinions, and your fake US personna somewhere else where the sun doesn't shine. I'm sure you'll make out real well with those wonderful references on the 3 fake accounts you allegedly did so well with on the NY subway too. You got it wrong - it's not anger issues, it is a quest for speaking the truth. Obviously you aren't into that at all. Your truth is as fake as one expect from an IBM India HR poster.

Your attitudes regarding IBM are as obvious as your contempt for its personnel, be they senior executives or rank and file. It makes me wonder if you're just trolling for upvotes, or if you really believe all that you say about how this business works.

If you're still with the company, then it's unfortunate for both you and IBM. If you're not with IBM anymore, then you've obviously got a lot of anger that you need to work out.

But you do you.

Your arguments about feeling sorry for the employees left behind after layoff and potential employers reading comments on this site are pure drivel. Potential employers are on the look out for people with skills, not the companies they work for or previously worked for. Resumes are screened for the right skills sets, certifications, length of service in the ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to see if candidates are a good match for a particular job opening or not. Then the ATS generates a potential candidate list for interviews - it's all automated, not much human interaction these days. Companies with corrupt management are two a penny in today's business world; IBM and Kyndryl are companies no one in the real world cares about much, except perhaps the corrupt leaders like Alvind and Krabanaugh and of course, the corporate investors. Miss a quarter or two of good results for IBM, and both Alvind and Krabanaugh will be history. And deservedly so. It's capitalism 101. The employees who are left behind after layoffs are invariably US managers and what valuable skills do most of them really have or develop ? A few might be technical, many are not. The Indians get the jobs at lower pay rate, and the US employees are cast aside unemployed to fend for themselves. It's sink or swim in the dog-eat-dog environment now. Why should anyone feel sorry for senior managers, partners, etc. at IBM in the US who get better pay and benefits than the lower rank and file folks that they laid off ? All good things come to an end. When hiring someone, it's all about finding candidates having the right skills, attitude and aptitude. Not about reading comments about IBM on Web sites like this one. New and exciting technology companies are born all the time and old ones like IBM die off and disappear - it's part of the cycle of life.

One thing to keep in mind is that all potential employers read websites like this one. When they see stuff like "payback is a bi--h", "do the bare minimum", and "Alvind and the Pipmunks", can you imagine what they are thinking? Especially with all the commentary regarding Indian and other foreign labor?

While IBM may indeed be a terrible employer, the employees who actually remain deserve every possible chance to escape and improve their lot in life with other employers. They won't get those chances if job interviewers think "damaged goods" whenever they see an ex-IBMer.

FYI IBM isn't welcomed in the new employment world. 3 job interviews but when IBM comes up the facial expression changes. One person said I should just list my IBM projects like a consult does on a detailed resume, just say consulting and end client the work was done for. bad day to give up...

Also, when you DO actually go into the office, STEAL as much as you can: office supplies, toilet paper, stuff from executive's desks, office furniture. He-l, you should see the filing cabinets in my basement. Stole them one at a time, rite out the back door.

By the numbers. A mission was moved to India from the US few years ago, under the pretense of cost cutting. The Department that owned the mission had less than 10 US based engineers. Looking at the same department that currently owns the mission, it has 90+ engineers. Where is the cost cut here ?
Are we kidding ourselves, the move of the work from the US to India is already racially motivated,
So, please, keep your lecturing bullsh-t for yourself.

gross generalisations about "lazy" workers could be applied to any company out there and those are typically demonisation tactics spread by the MSM, owned by the rich (the "great resignation", "quit quitters" etc). Stereotypes like these shift the blame and misframe what's happening.

Why don’t you ask the stipend Indian ceo to do a honest job, he just collected $86 million in bonus and 25% salary.
Are you a d-mb Indian working for your master ?

A contrarian opinion: Do your job as agreed when you took the position. If you aren't willing to live up to that arrangement, then quit and go somewhere else.

IBM is a crummy employer, I get it. But once you start doing as little as possible (quiet quitting), you're just making life miserable for everyone else. That may be your intention, I don't know. The attitudes of "do the bare minimum" and "f*** them over" are a large part of what got IBM into this position in the first place. If you adopt those attitudes in your work habits, then both you and IBM su-k and you deserve each other.

Put in an honest day's work, or get out of there and go someplace where you'll be happy. It does no good to anybody, not you nor anyone else, to stick around and do minimal effort just to draw a paycheck.

Excellent point. As they say, payback is a BIT$H !

IBM's leaders are all going to the wall, one way or another.

Keep Arrogant Alvind and his Indian Curry crooks on their toes and always looking behind their backs for something to happen...it will, of course. They can run, but they can't hide from Alvind created disasters. Or was it Lapdog Krabanaugh's fault ? Make sure you have lots of fake and conflicting documentation to hand out before you leave. A lot can be accomplished in 1 month. But D-mb looks are still free, if the Indians have to call you after you have left and have nothing to give you for your time and support....let them know clearly that money talks and BS walks every time.

In the current IBM climate, none can dream to last 40+ years.

We should have told Gerstner to stick it when he came in and ki-led the IBM culture 4-1-93. Gets way too much credit for "saving" IBM. He ki-led it and was a real A ^&*( no one liked. Had we gone in strike for a week or a month IBM might not have been ki-led with pension obligations ki-led etc. Polaroid, DEC, Compaq, Netscape, Kodak, Xerox, EMC etc etc ctc. Indian Business Machines for sure now and no looking back. A damn shame. The place is barely a shadow of what it used to be in my 44 years. Just the walking dead.

I think a lot of people are getting back at IBM in their own insidious little ways that are not obvious or readily apparent

I agree with @cp, don't do knowledge transfer or do it poorly. Don't volunteer any information. Most Indians engineers are incapable of thinking without hand holding.
Personally, I kept training the Indians for more than a decade so far, with very little success. I moved to other responsibilities. The incompetent Indian engineers are still calling me, requiring advice on their job. They have the audacity and arrogance to escalate when I refuse to solve their problems. IBM gets what it is paying for. A bunch of useless incompetent id--ts.

Don't train your replacement, don't knowledge share, don't document, and don't be obvious about it. If you must do these things, do it poorly.

You should start by taking advantage of the paralysis from the layoff notices in the past week by looking outside the evil and corrupt IBM mother ship for new jobs while you still have time. After all, if you're gonna get laid off by Alvind and his evil mother trucking Indians, you might as well get a head start on them.

Take as much education as you can and get as many badges on your profile while you have time. Put the badges on your LinkedIn page and network, network, network with others outside IBM. They all know IBM is an evil place, and staying at IBM is a LOSING strategy. Sooner of later, some Indian puts a target on your back. No kidding.

Get your resume tuned up for the inevitable layoff. Make 3 or 4 different versions to send out before the expected happens. Alvind is hungry for American blood, you just have to be more nimble to keep out range. In the end, someone will be waiting for him and his Pipmunks too. Actions have consequences.
