Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Too many useless VPs

Is why the oxy stock is doing terrible. We need less management layers who are overpaid to not add any real value other than saying yes or no.

Why is Oxy hiring all these AI people. What a waste. Just like the CO2 projects

Like VP of AI who knows nothing about what we do. Just doing talks externally and putting lipstick on a pig that is AI at Oxy

Directors are a dead end position. In a rush to promote upward, the org chart runs out of room at the top. Flattening the Org chart seems easy but they are all golf buddies up there and look out for each other. Acquisitions usually take care of the problem.....

Haven't been an international player since the 80's. Need a wayback time machine to relive those days... Anything international now of gravitas is courtesy of APC. And in their infinite wisdom just about gave Algeria away to the French...Nice move.

The comparison of Oxy to other Permian producers is disturbing. Oxy unfortunately has recently been called a “driller” comparing it to minor league local players. The company used to be a powerhouse in the international arena in addition to having some big assets domestically. In many places throughout the world the company could play with the really biggies like Shell, Total, ENI, BP, etc. It is very disappointing where the company image has gone.

What purpose does a director and VP serve? Many of the most successful oil and gas companies in the Permian have a very flat structure. That means from the worker to the CEO there is no more than 2 to 3 layers. They also are the ones who have 3x the market capital with half the reserves and low debt . And 85% less employees than Oxy does. Oxy employs 12000 employees, while others are around 3000. Unfortunately this will end up being the downfall of the company and there isn’t much at this point that can be done.

Directors are the biggest problem. Delete that entire layer and flatten the organization.

Sad thing is that when the sale happens, the bloated, ineffective management walk out the door with millions of dollars in severance for their troubles.

Too many directors as well. Directors should be managers and managers go back to staff level and work. Most managers have to work a full job and manage on the side. Push the directors to managers and make them manage 50 people or more. Titles are useless.

We had bobblehead management throughout APC. Would sit in executive meetings and see the junior VP's and middle managers do nothing but agree and rubber stamp projects to Sr Executives. There was little pushback and it ultimately cost us our company. Actions have consequences....

The organization structure is daunting … at the end of the day those folks will be the first cut when the sell happens.
