Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

How much further can we go?

We’re sitting at $50+ oil with a skeleton crew already and still making mass layoffs?? I can’t decide if the end is in sight for everyone soon or if the remaining employees will actually have safety.

To the person who said they should cut salaries by 25% instead of layoffs, they actually did both. By cutting LTIP they gave you a salary reduction, 20% in my case.

Skelton crew? They just keep adding to eagle ford. This asset is almost drilled up and we are getting more people? How do we plan on making this work?

Not sure who you’re referring to, but if it was TP, I don’t think it was a conspiracy like you’re making it out to be.

@dxx+19mJoeS4 That’s true—look at who was let go on the Bakken team last year. They were on the tip of exposing the BS money wasting and they got let go at first opportunity.

End in sight? I’d sell my soul to the devil if it meant MRO got bought up by one of the majors or quality mid majors like OXY

A true independent. That's funny. Apparently you have never worked for an independent. People at independents debate and push. They think ahead. See big picture. The leaders don't use fear tactics to quiet staff. There is almost no innovation at Marathon. The only direction anyone is looking is back through planning. You have one person at the top who makes every decision (exxon much) and won't take any risks. The leadership team isn't allowed to think or question him, so they simply repeat his talking points. None of them have courage to stand up to mr exxon. The female functional leaders are the least strategic people around, cut anyone under them who threatens to expose them, and behave as clones. Stepford leaders. Marathon could have made it if anyone at the top behaved as an independent does. They don't because your days of becoming an independent have long passed. Riding the gravy train while everyone else suffers. And how are they getting away with so many non-American leaders?

Management is finally waking up that you don't need all the fluff programs created by HR/GSC/Legal/HES. MRO is finally becoming a true independent without all of the legacy BS programs created by past leadership.

Said someone who wasn’t laid off. Nine months since the last layoff and the few that I know of haven’t had more than 1 or 2 interviews

Cutting everyones salary just makes everyone upset and disgruntled. It is easier to impact only 10-15% of the company and those that remain will feel grateful to still be employed and work hard.

Why didn’t they just offer to cut everyone’s salary 25%?

We were told the layoffs in April 2020 were the right cut and that we would be good for the immediate foreseeable future....

Guess that future didn't go out even 12 months.

I’m beginning to think Marathon won’t be around in a few years
