Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Still buying GM after VSP or layoff?

GM has bought you out with the VSP. You can still get a GM employee discount, if the dealer will accept and GM offers it for the vehicle you are looking for. Do you still feel compelled to support GM?

I have purchased many new GM cars as an employee, but I don’t feel that loyalty anymore. I believe current management only cares about themselves and the shareholders. Cadillac XT5 with discount versus Honda Passport Elite. Both around 48k, with GM discount, what do you choose?

Having nothing to do with GM, I will never buy another UAW built product. Striking assembly plants is one thing, but shutting down the parts distribution centers so that customers who already bought UAW built cars couldn't get needed repairs punished the innocent, but the UAW didn't care.

When GM let me go I bought a Nissan because it was the best deal i could find. At first I felt a tinge of guilt buying a foreign car, but then I found out my Nissan sales guy had done a tour in Afghanistan and 2 in Iraq. He was American as anything and it was helping him out.

Neighbor told me he wants a basic pickup like my 2023.
2024s that are out there now are thousands $$ more with less content . I didnt think that was possible till I saw one on the lot .

"Whatever happened to "Hungry? Eat your Import"?" - I think that changed when US OEMs attempted to start selling standard work trucks for 40k when the Japanese equivalent was so much better...oh, and when people are learning the hard way that you should stack your wealth and not drive it...

It would also stand to reason that these are bumper stickers you'd see on a Union employee's car that wants 80k for a 32hr work week.

You buy the vehicle that gives you the best value! I took the VSP and purchased a telluride because for that vehicle segment it was a better value by far.

I'm driving a pre-owned Royce Wraith. I could never been seen in my circles with a normie Cadillac. Though I do secretly admire what we did with the Lyric. That said, I still struggle with having a purpose in life now that I'm away from the GM styling dept.

I have replaced my Cadillac with a Packard, my Buick with a Solara and I will keep my Miata. No more Big Three, no Tesla and no more German OEMs!

I wouldn't buy gm vehicles before, during, or after my employment. The quality is terrible. I only buy Toyota or Honda because I want my car to last.

GM cars don't do well in Consumer Reports or Motor Trend ratings.

The only reason to buy them is out of some kind of loyalty, not for their quality.

Once my student loans are forgiven, I plan on trading in my 2019 Cadillac Escalade for a new G-Class SUV from Mercedes. I can use my VSP money toward the balance. No more GM cars!

I’d consider only If the employee price ends up giving a HUGE discount stacked on top of a bunch of incentives.

I still plan on buying a GM truck by the end of the year because I just like the way they look more over the competition. I liked them before I joined though. The not-layoffs and VSP isn’t going to change that since it wasn’t about loyalty.

2 new Hondas in my driveway. Fantastic vehicles. My last GM vehicle was a POS.

Nope, took the VSP this year and now all done buying gm vehicles. Currently have a 2019 Chevy Silverado. They have lost touch with middle class and cost of the vehicles. Best of luck on EV sales......

Why don't you buy the car you've been leasing?

I sat with my Chevy salesgirl yesterday to go over current offers as my lease term draws near. High rates, nothing in stock I can justify/afford. Looks like I’ll be in the market for a used older truck. Btw, this is normally a very busy Chevy dealer. I was there 1.5 hours and only saw 1 person come thru the door that whole time. She said moral is at an all time low with GM inventory “In Transit”and delivery issues…even before the strike. I felt bad for her.

Nope. Been loyal to GM for too long, including as an employee for 17 years. VSP buyouts and layoffs without regard for actual job performance, just based how much you currently made, forced this change of heart very easily. Cut throat and deceitful approach by SLT. Was a good ride, but they don’t care about employee loyalty, why should it be returned by supporting GM products? No thanks! Moving on & looking forward to trying some different brands!!

I struggle with this. But I've only owned American brands. I'd feel guilty buying a Toyota.
