Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Too little too late

Just the threat of layoffs has improved productivity as the majority of those who were phoning it in are now going above and beyond in hopes of making themselves seem indispensable. You must have noticed this as well. I don't think many of them realize that if layoffs are coming, it has already been decided who'll be let go. They can work all day and all night without changing the outcome if their name is already on the list.

There has always been a wild cat frenzy at and around Livonia transmission. Half the engineers would have quit if you would have moved their day desks to Dearborn.

@OP It doesn't matter whether you're a slacker or producer. I've seen master slackers get away with doing nothing for years (decades even) and escape layoff after layoff because they hang out with leadership inside and outside of the work environment.

I've seen slackers get called out by their team to management and get let go when there wasn't a layoff.

I've seen employees working consistent 80 hour work weeks and get let go because they had 30 years in and the company deemed they made too much. (Then the company has to hire 3 people just to replace that one.)

I've seen someone have triple bypass surgery, using the medical benefits the company provides (the audacity!), and get laid off because he cost the company too much money.

I've seen employees contradict their managers/leaders (going against the grain doing what is right), inadvertently making them look bad, and they were first on the chopping block.

I've seen role model employees for their entire careers at a company suddenly get a below expectations on their annual review so the company has a 'legitimate' reason to let them go.

The point is there is no rhyme or reason other than cost cutting to who has a target on their back. If a company decides you need to go, they will find a reason.

Your post is proof that not all that were SRD'd were hard working valuable employees. At least one of the names you listed was someone who we all wondered what he even did for work to earn his paycheck. From what we seen, that guy did nothing but drive and abuse company M-plate test cars for leisure. It was so consistent it was comical. And the bad part is there are still people in the company that follow that former model employee and get away with it. HR and management is still oblivious to the slackers that cost the company real money.

When SRD workstreams were happening ~2018, TDE managers that ended up leaving (Capoccia, Grytzelius, Renneker, Adamzchek, etc.) told their close LL's friends that after SRD was done that several tiers of future SRD / layoffs / involuntary separations were already identified. They suggested their LL's friends to start looking for options outside Ford as they did later (Oldani, Bruck, etc.)

Whoever is going to be asked to leave has been in the cross hairs for a long time. More likely, the senior engineers, spvrs, will be asked to leave in order to leave space for younger people.

Unfair as it sounds, it is what it is. At the formerly known TDE, there are between 20 and 25 LL's with more than 25 years in service with at least 10+ years as LL's. None of them would be missed, they have been gypsies jumping from section to section.
Including the Director and one of the Chief Engineers have more than 25 yrs in service.

This is like the movie Logan's Run, when people turning 30 were vaporized.
I was SRD in 2019 after 25 years in service and 15 yrs as LL6, no regrets, it was my time, I do not feel sorry for those who are going to be cut, for the company to survive tough decisions need to be made.

I think a lot of us future retirees would have liked to go out on our own terms. The transformation of this company has been very dramatic the last 6 months. We have a diverse workforce with some that value work life balance more than others. We have others that are driven by power and money. There is a point where the ones who can leave just say Fuch it and go. That is what is going to happen by the end of the year. I sure hope there are enough core people left to recover from this.
