After the announcement about the Cole closure until at least the 22nd. What has to happen in order to make sure a building is clear after something like Legionnaires' disease? They just recently halted water bottle sales, too!

The trust level of Cole cafeteria food and the starbucks coffee will be very low.

The drinking fountains are an obvious avoid. You don't know who's licking the spout.

The email said that Starbucks will be open on Thursday, October 2 but there's no return day for the employees. Seems like something they should tell us on Friday, the week before.

So latest statement- its "only" in the drinking water, its safe because the disease is airborne droplets. We are going to sanitize (somehow) , c'mon into the office starting Oct 2. Restaurants and some water systems will be unavailable at first.
I feel safer already! Now we can lug in a gallon of water with us daily too!

Legionnaires is usually in the HVAC system, not the bathrooms.
But you can get other diseases in there.
It's time to acknowledge Aramark's role in the Legionnaire's disease in the Cole.
They simply failed for years to clean the facility and should be held accountable.
We KNOW that the restrooms, drinking fountains, eating areas, etc. are unsanitary.
No soap or paper towels. Dirty, sticky floors and tables.
It's irresponsible for GM to not hold them accountable.
It's inhuman to expect people to live and work in those conditions.
This is the part of the story that needs to be spoken.
They still haven't admitted what part of the facility is hosting the diseased water.
I don't expect them to say much given how litigious people are these days.
But not admitting what is infected will just bolster the distrust we all have.
We are probably looking at a mid-October RTO given how long it takes to test. Who knows what's involved with the cleaning. This will transition right into people taking vacation days. Looks like we are all coasting into 2026!

It has been confirmed that the presence of Legionella bacteria has been found in the Cole Engineering building. Building will be remain closed until GM cleans this mess up. As I have worked in this building for several years, I am not shocked. The bathrooms are disgusting and standing water by toilets are not unusual. Often you can discern the standing water stink from the perpetual fecal deposits on surfaces that are not sanitized nearly enough. Work from home is in effect, due to unhealthy work environment. Between this and performance ranking, GM doesn't want you here, lol!
The update i saw was they were waiting for test results. Earliest RTO is this Thursday if tests are negative. If the tests are positive, they can't say.

Ever since the local uaw lost the maintenance and facilities contracts every building has been a disaster. Say what you will abouts unions (they are needed) but at least they take pride in their work. Aramark while unionized operates under a different contract and doesn't have to follow the same rules. The leadership on the Aramark and "sustainable workplace" groups have no plan and refuse to utilize GMS or any other common sense business development plan. It's just people running around putting out fires. If they have security looking for the legionaries like any other safety incident....good luck...you'll all be sick by the end of the year.
They should send a professional team into the Cole podium restrooms and do a complete biohazard remediation while they are at it.
