there is very little engineering going on today the full service supplier does all the work and the Ford or Gm engineer just signs off when done and at check points

I heard that Blue Cross of MI laid off 48 salaried workers. Lear laid off people a couple weeks ago. So, jobs in SE MI are disappearing.

What’s the limit that triggers the WARN Act reporting, 50? So these companies are keeping it under 50.

If you have not noticed, the new strategy is “we dismantled the group, you have x days to find a new position”. My guess there will not be mass layoffs, just targeted individuals and groups here and there throughout the year. The exception to that is if the economy takes a big hit and we need to cut cost immediately.

Just a bunch of speculation wrapped in bitterness.

Yes. To pay for union salary. Ford stocks won't go anywhere due to union pay unless Ford moves at least 50% production to Mexico AND reduce union member by 50%.

@1pyd+1qkONd7b True, if they laid off the correct 50%. History shows that Ford consistently lays off the most productive and skilled employees and keeps the dregs, then goes on a binge hiring spree when work is not getting done post layoff.

The truth is 75-80% of the salaried could be laid off (including LCC salaried) if all the unproductive, non-value add employees and leadership were cut. Heck entire departments could and should be eliminated.

Ford can layoff or get rid of 50% of the salary workforce and the company still be just fine.

It would b nice if the company offered bridges and packages to people prior to a layoff. Similar to GM, Stellantis and Toyota. You know how many people would jump at the 2 year offer Toyota has in the table? The lack of these approaches illustrates that Ford doesn’t care about their people and deem them expendable.

@eyz Good gosh, when will you mindless parots stop with this stuff? The plan is foolish because it puts all the eggs in one basket. Every freshman Econ major learns this and it almost invariably leads to disaster. We are tiptoing on a very very narrow path between steep slopes to financial ruin. The only way out of this mess is a completely new leadership team and new path back to profitability.

Disagree. You could argue that the reductions thus far have not gone deep enough to result in the efficiency that leadership desires. With efficiency a company can be more nimble and meet the changing demands that the mobility landscape we are part of requires. I trust Ford leaders will do what is necessary to grow via the plan.

I’ve lived in the Detroit area all my life. Almost 60 years now. You could never depend on a steady paycheck from the car companies or suppliers. But, when I was a kid and into my 20s, Ford used to lay off their engineers every two years or so, and then hire them back. Now they don’t allowed terminated workers back.

now saddled with another UAW contract, I’d say very likely, as in certain.

100% chance JF still needs to hit his target of only 15% of salaried working in US+Europe. The shadow organizations in LCCs are to take prepared to take over tasks.

I am sure fanboy will chime in about how there are no press articles about pending layoffs and how BF claims the company and leadership is the best ever. Anyone who has lived in Metro Detroit for a minute knows how Ford hands over pre-written “news” to news outlets to publish (the line this is an advertisement printed in invisible ink) And they also know what an echo chamber the area is for the former big three’s PR. Step out of the bubble and read well researched and reasoned articles and you will know the dire situation and that cuts are coming, even in the lauded EV space.

Anyone who does not have a buffer of liquidity is a mo--n. “I will prepare, and perhaps my chance will come.” ~Abraham Lincoln. Every indicator we have been given means not to be overly reliant on compensation from Ford. Save, invest in passive income streams, don’t spend money like a fool. Your day may come; best be ready for it.

The question isn't if there will be A layoff. But how many there will be. 3 years in a row of multiple rounds of layoffs. The new Ford way.

P.S. If Ford really does monitor these forums, you should be looking at leadership. You've tried laying off the the masses. Yet the company is still foundering. The share price is still in the toilet. Sales are plummeting. 2024 is going to be the year of production shutdowns as the vehicle inventory is at record levels.

Your leadership has failed. Clean house starting with Bill. Or watch this company go into bankruptcy.

Anyone involved with subscription revenue should be worried. Model e should be worried. Canopy should be worried (I know they are at the c level). Any people who didn’t meet plan as it relates to revenue are likely to be let go. I learned this from a high level friend in finance.
