Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

Has anyone else noticed a potential disparity in how ethnic minorities are being affected by these layoffs? I’d be really interested to see any

Wondering the same thing! It seems that way for the streaming division. I was shocked to hear my coworker was laid off. She was easily the most hardworking on the team.

@dk My separation agreement has a list of all the titles/ages of the individuals in my division showing those we were eliminated and those who weren't. The majority of people let go were over 45 and most had titles under VP. Take it for what it is.

@d8 Definitely those who are older unless you have an E/SVP title, then there was some safety in certain areas.

All the pretty people in my dept got chopped. All the ugly ones are still here - white and POC.

At my India call center I’m trying to figure out whether I am the ethnic minority in your question or not?

@bw my team was all skinny tans and 1 husky and now it’s one skinny tan and 1 husky. Make sense of that!

Can confirm. All husky people on my team got chopped.

I’ve noticed that us big/husky non-Hollywood types are being weeded out and the tan, fit and skinny are being kept. Not cool

@bk + the demo at bet is probably what percentage non-white? If you lay any percentage off it’s likely all minority. I doubt any other publicly traded companies have a division so skewed toward non white. Just saying …

Sorry but that isn’t the way RIF’s work at a large public company.

Prior to these actions HR and Legal have weeks to review literally every name on the layoff list and make sure there is no demographic bias at play and that none of the people being laid off ever filed a harassment complaint against the supervisor laying them off, etc.

The company is 150% sure that nobody can claim discrimination and sue well before any employees are notified.

I think it depends on the team. If your dept head has discriminatory behaviors as mine did then you are probably more
likely to get let go.

I know of a dozen laid off and none of them were minorities. Mostly svp and vp men and women. Maybe in some other dept it’s reverse.

CBS News fired 8 on-air personalities in latest layoffs under new leader Bari Weiss. All of them are women

Speaking only for P+ streaming side, I can confirm a majority of the POC on the P+ streaming side got impacted.

Good try but the only staff left in our office was white female and they were all laid off. All the white males were laid off two lay off’s ago.

I was waiting for someone to state the obvious! And per usual, the usual reactionary trolls couldn't way to chime in!

But yes, it's very noticeable. Although that could just be the longstanding result of poor leadership and lack of any real advocates for those folks internally historically.

New leadership team isn't exactly helping that either. They've basically signaled that if you're a high performing, or an up and coming POC exec, look elsewhere. Sorry, you don't look the part. There are some barista openings in brentwood.... maybe try there.

I'm sure there will be the usual platitudes regarding "ideological diversity" in subsequent town halls, etc. etc. And the trolls will deny and scream "merit", yada yada.

Best of luck out there.

Stay frosty.

All the people I know who have been layed off are white. Perhaps it depends on the office, obviously genetic makeup will vary depending on location.

You wont see that. Companies are very careful with demographics during layoffs.

Yes, on my team it's been mostly black or POCs being laid off every round it's pretty obvious

80% of my team is from India so no. Quite the opposite actually.

Nope!

But any case, outside of being a smartaxx, all of the protected classes are legally reviewed before the RIF happens. If you can find a violation, they will find the reason its not...but give it your best effort and good luck.

Dude, stop trolling hoping media picks this up. The company is bloated and cable is evaporating. DEI is dead.
