Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

This will not work

You can't get rid of decades worth of knowledge by laying off a whole bunch of employees who've been here the longest and expect not to have it affect the company in the long run. Yes, the new people are cheaper, but is there anybody left to teach them what they need to do? Those little secrets of the trade that make everything run smoothly? I don't think so...

BTC is helping Imperial stay competitive without bankrupting the company and preserve the jobs of many of the people who will be let go permanently if Imperial doesn't rise to this challenge. Imperial wants to keep the hard working forward thinking employees in this this efficiency drive, there are so many of them on the front lines at our sites helping our profitability. This is not a Liberal government job where overpaid employees can spend all their time on make work. Just like no one pays 1000$ for a Canadian made phone which can be sold for $500 by being made in china, the same cost competitiveness applies here. Free markets don't forgive lack of cost competitiveness in the long term, protectionist policies started dying with the USSR. That is why UCP has such an important role with its business centric policies which will keep companies profitable, if Canada had a conservative federal government, such policies across all sectors would make canadian companies successful and globally competitive by keeping the salaries from being excessive.

With the large cost differential, Imperial will make it work whether you like it or not as it strives for cost efficiency and wants only to retain hard working focused employees in the long run. If you have decent skills, then you will have no issues finding work elsewhere, if not then that is something you need to evaluate and think about. Canada has tier 1 universities, you should have no problem with developing new skills and move on. Canadians can easily find jobs in America (provided they are educated, talented, skilled and flexible).

Everyone knows that won't work. Greedy management is also aware of that. However, only for their own profit, stocks and bonuses they are sending all work to cheap overseas locations.

A BTC broker / Management representative will come to this thread to justify about offshoring work. That clown will come with his false justification about outsourcing. He lives here in Canada, however he only thinks where he came from. Imperial Management even Justin Trudeau promote these id–ts.
