Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Get Busy Leaving, or Get Busy (career) Dying

Cisco Vet: The culture and organization at Cisco are funny. First you hate 'em, then you get used to 'em. Enough time passes, you get so you depend on them. That's institutionalized.

New Hire: I could never get like that.

Cisco Vet: Oh yeah? Say that when you been here as long as I have. You lucky enough to stay and hang on here for life, and that's exactly what they take. The part that counts, anyway.

Yeah - an manager I know was given almost a dozen critical high profile CAP cases to run himself.... (I got grey hairs just from a couple of near CAPS I ran!)

He collapsed fitting on the train, never worked again, and last I heard was still technically "on" the Cisco payroll...

Anther couple died of early cancer and heart-attacks (despite being fit)

So yes, they really do drive people into the ground...

@dg and zero of that is true.
Odd though that you mention divorce. Those cheating on their spouses on company time must be because they are just so busy. Nevermind the IPV rate. The ethics

Office work is not vocational pain and suffering.

Trades will cut every corner and violate code to get out by 3pm. I've gone months at a time seeing the sunrise while working a first shift engineering job and a number of people I worked with were dead before 60. At one small company I worked at everyone there was divorced. Every so often at Cisco I saw someone getting rolled out on a stretcher to an ambulance.

Of course we weren't at Cisco in California where the lights were only on from 9:30am to 4:30pm and people weren't there that long. If that's your baseline I can see why you don't see the issues.

This was the conversation while the 'Vet' was swapping out the cat litter during the monthly mtg of the inclusive community of furry employees.

@av pain and suffering. Lol. Do you even know what a hard job is. Office work is not vocational pain and suffering. Stop acting like a victim.

Unless you leave there will be no change. Some people love to endure pain and suffering.
