Thread regarding Ford layoffs

3 RTO isn’t going to happen

No one wants to come in the freezing weather to sit in a sh1t office to Webex their incompetent colleagues in Chennai who don’t even speak basic English and are arrogant as if they run the company and us working with them is a blessing for us

Since RTO is back again, this FedEx commercial hits home.

Having people in an office building is expensive.

It's something a business wants to avoid if they are watching their pennies.

The "boomers" invented working remotely.

I'm at the extreme leading edge of Gen X, "boomer-adjacent" you could say, and I guarantee you that it isn't the "boomers" as a group who want RTO.

RTO is a management fad being pushed by commercial real estate investors and landlords. And governments (for taxes). It's the "in" thing to get excited about in the executive suite.

Anyone pushing RTO is either envious or they're being played.

Boomer take, really. Just a bunch of woo,woo come together junk. What a hippie. The important thing is that the workngets done. You just don't like it that some people can thrive this way. Learn and evolve or fade away.

No.

You’ve spent 40 years figuring out how to send our jobs everywhere in the world to save a few bucks. All of my meeting must be online BY NECESSITY. There is zero reason for me to spend my precious time driving to do the same thing I can do from at home. And save the lectures about collaboration - it’s nonsense.

In addition, you played along with the Covid scam. You threatened our jobs, scared people into taking the useless non-vaccine, made us justify our decision to not be experimented on and were more than happy to jump through all the hoops required to play along with that game. And you knew it was BS. You did it to curry favor with the Biden Admin because you thought they were gonna peel off a few Billion dollars to push your cr-p EVs like they did for Tesla.

Go against the grain for once in your careers. Show some leadership. Make Ford a place people want to work. Don’t force them to sit in your depressing buildings for no tangible benefit to them or their work.

RTO only when required to perform the job!!!

@bc+1, RTO isn’t about being at the office at 5am or 10pm, it’s during core hours. I’ve been in the software industry for 30 years and have take off hour conference calls from home no problem.

And if you are on nonstop meetings than all the more reason you should be in the offfice so your peers can actually interact with you as needed in between all that.

Full time RTO has been discussed many times here and by our leadership in Town Halls. All agree (and expert studies have shown) that a company will improve in all aspects when all employees are onsite full time.

Leadership teams and Human Resources are currently determining the best roll out time for RTO in 2025. Stay tuned.

If Ford want us to have video conference meetings with suppliers at 10 p.m. or 5 a.m., they’re going to have to be a bit flexible about doing these meetings from home, especially if the job market improves. And if I’m doing a 2 hour meeting at 5 a.m., then meeting after meeting in my computer for the rest of the day, what benefit to anyone is it for me to go into an office?

It just vexes management that peon employees have a nice office to work in. Offices are a status symbol and if your home office is nicer than theirs, they are sorely vexed.

No mention of RTO in the organization I am in for the time being.
Given I will likely retire this year (no pension due from Ford) I will not comply with an edict if it occurs.

"Nissan is now requiring 4 days per week in office, expect at least that."

Well they'll be out of business in a year...

Yepper 5 days a week coming to USA... Soon! Layoffs just around the corner too. The healthcare costs are going to be a real issue!

Umm, it’s being looked into and supported by some orgs.

Everyone keeps using it as a we-pon here on the board to lay people off. It’s actually a stupid notion, because Ford’s only intention is to get rid of Michigan based employees for now.

But it’s correct to say it’s not happening yet or is anywhere near widespread.

You WILL go into the office for not 3, but 5 days per week. Welcome back!
