Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

They know what they’re doing

In my 2019 layoff, I noticed that they laid off a lot of older workers along with some younger workers in entry level jobs that were basically on written warning for d-mb sh-t, like calling in hungover every Monday.

They know what they’re doing. If you’ve got over ten years and/or turning 50, watch out.

Bumping this from @dkt+1plL9OgH for being 100% on point.

Well, I’ve gotten an exceeds at every performance review, promoted every two years, but this year was dealing with medical issues and took some time off. Got laid off. I think there might be a pattern of laying off anyone who is similarly struggling.

"Then they made people reapply for positions with more responsibility to cover themselves legally, no benefit aside from some silly stock option, really?"

I hear about people reapplying to elevated roles, but are you saying they weren't offered the severance package? So, if they don't get the elevated role, they are unemployed without the severance package? No way, that sounds illegal.

There are too many dinosaurs at schwab who have been in their positions forever, who are set in their ways and constantly resisting positive changes. Laying them off is a good thing.

I second, STS is so awful right now. So many mixed messages across Orgs, no one knows (if you're a non MD) what is going on, but you know not to think into it, cuz the alternative is going to be what you expected including more silos and reorgs. It is beyond streasful! Does anyone know what these reorgs costs the company, $wise, not even counting mental anguish and NON knowledge transfer, cuz it's a mess. MDs are checked out and stressed, probably because they want to keep their job. Makes sense. It is awful, mostly double speak and leaves us all with scratching our heads or it's just complete silence. What's my (our) new role going to be, determined by someone new who has no people leader qualities or business being a people leader. When will someone please stand up and say enough like that guy at IMPACT!

Pattern-or-practice.

Blue is notorious for discrimination, especially age, however, they have gotten very good at doing it legally. Or legally enough.

Anyone who wasn’t let go in a layoff should seek the next one if they’re being harassed. Most operating states, including TX, AZ, OH and NC, are challenging for workers taking legal action and settlements are generally smaller.

@dee+1ptN9YF8 funny how "conspiracy theories" seem to be coming true more and more often, innit?

That’s why they spent $$$$$ for a consulting company to prepare the story in a reorganization, role elimination. CYA but I can assure you that factors also went into whom remains vs goes.

In any case the ones left our EC should be more concerned with. Culture is now gone here and more attrition coming.

conspiracy theories... that would be a lawsuit and if there was a genuine pattern, they would lose, i dont buy it.... the time in job maybe since it means you prob made more $$$

I am still there in STS and it’s awful. None of the MDs were impacted at top 2 layers (why do we need 3 layers of MDs in an IT department?) and these are so unorganized most of their projects fail due to the layers.
Most of the impacted were remote approved, older in age and probably making too much money.
Then they made people reapply for positions with more responsibility to cover themselves legally, no benefit aside from some silly stock option, really?

Look elsewhere, this place has some increased risk that it did to itself.

I was turning 50 with some health issues. I got laid off. All I need is a decent paying job and health insurance.
