Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Hopeful no more…

There’s always been hope and drive, almost to the point of being what they call a koolaid drinker. I admit, I’ve not heard that phrase in a long time until I started watching this board. After months of reading the posts here versus internal workings, I give up.
I searched for counter arguments and can find none and have to agree with many of the negative things posted here. There is no career here just a paycheck. It seems that the management has worked really hard to make sure that you know, you are owned by them and as I’ve heard too often in meetings “if you don’t like then there are other places of employment”. The argument has been that “its a way of encouraging attrition so that severance does not have to be paid if laid off”. Really? If that’s the case, really? That’s as good as management gets? Well either way, I am marketable with respectable skills. I know this as after three weeks of searching and submitting for 3 job posts for different companies, I have been presented with 2 offers. Each of which pay AT LEAST 20% more, with a sign on bonus, 100% work remote. So Citi, challenge accepted and I take my leave.

I am now retired and definitely no troll, I also was told after I complained about almost zero paths for advancement and raises below inflation that the door was there if I was that unhappy. I was not a star but always got positive annual reviews and was with Citi over 30 years, probably should have moved on but after a certain period of time you don't want to give up all that seniority and vacation time. plus I was concerned the new job would turn out to be the same problems with a new wrapper and now no seniority to protect from being first one laid off if anything went wrong at the new company.

Forget the financial sector. Try another sector. A number cruncher for citi can crunch numbers somewhere else. A project manager, coder, developer, security analyst etc… can do the same thing in another sector. Who says if you leave it has to be for another bank.

I encourage everyone to take a few minutes and "cruise" the other financial institutions layoff site. It's the same all over. Senior management quit caring about employees YEARS ago. We are "Resources" and NOT people.

I’ve been lucky. I’ve had some really good manager but I have seen many bad ones out there too. The good ones seem to move on and the bad ones seem to stay it seems.

So you’re searching “ financial institutions, insurance, cell/internet services, oil, and healthcare companies” boards? Getting feelers out there for job prospects?

Funny how anything negative is always a troll who’s never worked at Citi. There’s no way that anything negative could ever be true. It’s completely impossible.

Exactly. So many non employees just sh-t stirring.

I’ve been at Citi 13yrs, no issues. I mean minor stuff, but nothing crazy or toxic. Maybe it’s youngsters with unrealistic expectations of a work environment? Work at a small company or startup and see how good you have it at Citi!

@dav I'm guessing at least 50% troll (or, at least, non-employees, just commenting. Some responding helpfully, and others just stirring the pot)
For whatever reason, it seems like the threads for financial institutions, insurance, cell/internet services, oil, and healthcare companies seem to attract a lot of non-employees in the comments, and way more than their fair share of trolls making initial posts.

I too have heard this from management, different management at that from different teams. It’s a common theme as if you should count yourself lucky to be employed at Citi, when in fact it should be the company that should count themselves lucky instead to have the employees that they have.

I’ve never heard anyone say those things in meetings or elsewhere. I do sometimes wonder how many on these boards really work at Citi and how many are just trolling.

Good for you. You have management that really says things like that in meetings? I would have taken them up on that offer not long after I heard it for the first time. Ridiculously bad management.
