Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Folsom site closing for good?

Heard a rumor through a few people that Folsom site will be closing for good. Buyers of the site want the whole site and not rent back to Intel? The site has a lot of seasoned, long tenured engineers so they would probably just have them work remote and lease some other building in the area to house some of them. The rest of the employees in Folsom that are non engineers will probably be cut. Anyone else heard anything like this scenario? The good thing is that we have Samsung, Qualcomm, AMD and micron who are local that will pick up the engineering talent.

@d5 I think part of the problem is "Intel money." Far too many people who moved to Folsom for Intel had that "I've got Intel money now" attitude, and it made them entitled, arrogant, and rude. You can see it first hand walking around the shopping centers near the campus; groups of people with Intel badges walking around like we're all lucky they graced us with their presence. Not everyone from Intel is a bad apple. I'd like to think I'm one of the good ones. I treat everyone with respect on and off campus. I'm on a first name basis with many of the custodial staff, guards, and cafeteria employees, and I say hi to everyone, even when they avoid eye contact.

wow, after ~40 years in Folsom it sounds like Intel has failed to impress the local community based on the comments here. What a surprise. Probably the same community sentiments in Hillsboro and Chandler.

@an Amen to the turn signal. Get off your phone, pay attention to what you're doing, and use your turn signal.

The Cowboy’s got a point. I have seen a few Intel folks at the Rodeo over the years but. drive around near the Palladio & you see nothing but snotty lying cheating Me Firsters . P.S. when you’re gonna change lanes use a godda-n turn signal!

@af Wow, no sympathy for anyone, huh? No room in your heart for the thousands losing their jobs, many of them fully integrated into the community? How about the ones that drive well, go the rodeo, wear a cowboy hat, drive a truck, and are nice to people around town? Don't you think expecting them to own cattle is a bit much? You've got some pretty high standards for who qualifies to exist in your town. Based on your attitude I'm guessing you own Folsom outright.

They are fixin’ to sell the Folsom site. I say Good Riddance! They came here in the 80s. Not one of them bought a cowboy hat or boots. Not one of them had a ranch, cattle or a decent pickup truck. Note of them went to the yearly Rodeo. They built their plastic community's with their corporate outlets and never once gave a sh-t about the folks that were already living here. We wont miss your sh---y driving or your rudeness in our establishments. Your folks all act Too Big for Their Britches & Intel was All Hat and No Cattle. We hope to see you replaced by Something that is honest and legitimate. -Just an honest man from Folsom who is sick of your sh-t. Good Bye!

If we're talking about dysfunctional management layers and bureaucracy, Folsom is the site to close down first.

Qualcomm has been making its engineers justify their job/salary in preparation for this. Their plan is to scoop up Intel talent, underpay relative to their current workforce, and let go any redundancies.

A shuffling of the workforce to lower pay grades. In nearly every industry.

Now THATS how you eat a tariff.
