Mmmmm okay.

It's quite some hubris that they believe they can hire all these roles and build a new organization from scratch in a year. Everyone that came up with and sold the Engine concept should be fired, it's so ridiculous.

India does have competent engineers, but the way to do this would be over several years and with careful recruitment, there are also many bullsh-t artists and liars in India that there is no way our weak a-s recruitment process will weed them out. Instead we decided to announce this to the market and rush into an mad recruitment drive, losing many very good engineers that don't want to deal with this mess.

Low cost labor is so early 2000’s. Automation and AI is the present. But, sure, let’s lift and shift to lower cost. Always a couple decades behind.

This event for IT is a double edged sword. For those that land a role, there will be 40% less people with the same amount of work or expectations. For those left standing, it’s going to be hard to find another role in the current market given uncertainty so many companies will not be expanding. The only winners are those that can retire (age and financially) and the executives with their bonuses and LTIP.

I agree the company will be losing a lot of IT knowledge that cannot be transferred to people in India who do not know what questions need to be asked/answered. CVX IT is in for a rough 1.5+ years after June 30th while trying to support the patch work of applications that are in production at Chevron. :)

Measured: reduction in GA costs by offshoring.
