Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

I don’t know what to do…

I was offered the VSP. I don’t know if I should take it. I feel like for every pro for taking it there is a con. And for every con for taking it, there is a pro.

The severance is good money. But steady income is important.

The culture is gone and the firm is not the same. But who knows where I’d go next and if it would be any better.

Change can be exciting and promote growth. Putting myself out there to convince someone to employ me is terrifying.

I like my current role with EDJ and wasn’t looking to change. But there is little hope my current role will continue as currently defined.

My spouse and kids are supportive no matter what I decide. They know they are what are most important to me. We’ll get through whatever the future brings together.

I’m running out of time… what do I decide????

I have a horrible female GP with her crony Sr Dir operating in my area. They are the ultimate schemers and fakers of them all. But they thrive in this environment. I know any semblance of integrity is dead in my area.

@d3.. I'm amazed at how many horrible female bosses are out there. I just got away from a boss who kissed others rear ends to look good. She liked to throw poeple under the bus. SMH

Not sure if lottery analogy makes complete sense.

If I don’t take VSP, I could get caught in ISP now or in a later round. I suspect the ISP severance will get less and less generous.

VSP offer is particularly generous for folks who have a long tenure (10+ years).

@eb... the only way I'd leave my job is a nice jackpot. I'd be ok at my age with $4 million cold hard cash. $1 million wouldn't help me to retire.

My decision is largely due to the fact that I have toxic leadership and the company isn't what it used to be or claims to be. Continuing to work with the worst boss I've ever had and her enablers is not worth the damage to my health. Since I made the choice to accept I have felt better every morning knowing it's only a matter of time and I get to leave on my terms.

@OP, it's up to you. Depending on your time to retire, I would stay.

Not certain what the place will look like a year or two from now.

Go with your gut. You are right that the culture that we knew is gone. Trust that we had in this place with it. You want to be where you are appreciated. If the VSP money is decent and take it as a sign that you belong somewhere else where the owners of the company hold true to their words.

If you have been with EJ for a few years and the severance is a decent amount, I say take it. If they accept your VSP, it’s a sign that you would have been laid off with the ISP anyway. Remember the ISP terms might change and be far less generous.
