Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Data & AI: A Leadership Failure

The Data & AI organization has been in steady decline since Kat H left, and it worsened under Ronke’s leadership. Key talent was laid off without strategic foresight, institutional knowledge was lost, and execution quality collapsed.

For 18 months there has been no clear vision, no strong cadence, and no accountability. After the JC merger, politics and power dynamics overtook delivery.

The team focuses on frameworks and ingestion optics while lacking fundamental data understanding, quality discipline, and business alignment.

There is hope new leadership restores clarity, accountability, and real data leadership — because what we have today is not working.

@pt
While I'm more familiar with Paul L (I'm referring to him as LISTERIA) than Ronke, to me the ultimate failure was not growing the actual teams under him with experience and know how, but instead with outsourcing to Accenture and Atacamma (garbage software BTW), and that's almost 100% on LISTERIA because he had no clue on what he was doing and pushed away those that could achieve. I honestly hope he wakes up and doesn't find his job anymore.

@pr Sounds like another ill-informed IT minion playing yet more ineffective political games while producing nothing but more overhead. BK tried to fix IT, but when he retired, they went back to playing the same games they have ever since the days of Kaiser.

@pt Don't forget Marcus East and the outsourcing he did to his buddies. They keep doing the same thing.

@pf @pf I’m not a fan of Infosys, but I don’t believe they are responsible for the situation we’re in. The larger accountability sits with IDS leadership — specifically Ronke and Paul — whose decisions created instability and execution gaps across the organization.

During the Nebula migration, T-Mobile spent significant money with CTS and the project did not deliver. Infosys stepped in later and successfully delivered the migration at a much lower cost.

We also need transparency around vendor strategy. Travis B’s close alignment with Avanade resulted in substantial spend without clear measurable outcomes. Similarly, Ellen’s strong support of EY raises questions about how vendor decisions are being evaluated.

This isn’t personal. It’s about governance, accountability, and responsible stewardship of company funds.

Who's ever heard of Data Marketplace?
That is by far the biggest waste of resources in the history of TMO ran by InfoSys.

Network engineers should be grateful for all of the hard work IT has done to make the network usable. T-Life is the reason this company is successful.

@j7 @j7 Telecom went into the toilet the day the IT people took over. Just because Blackberrys carried data didn't suddenly mean that IT were telecom engineers. Since that day telecom went from methodically building a stable, reliable network for the long term to an endless, frantic and volatile rip-and-replace operation.

IT should just give up attempting to go through the motions and let Engineering's working systems carry the load.

I felt the same way before getting laid off from this group. I had no idea of what the he-l the end game was. It's a literal money black hole or laundering scam.
