I think the singer from smashmouth should be the next IBM ceo.
My point was that sales people with no or very limited technical skills provide much value (for both clients and IBM). It is key to strike a proper balance here.

AK is one of the incompetent exec. He doesn't know anything about sales. Without sales people, IBM can't survive. And without good products, sales can't survive. Currently, that's happening. Sales is not surviving because IBM doesn't have any good products. On top of that BS hybrid cloud strategy. So no one can save IBM unless AK leaves. Ginni was way better than AK. She has promoted Watson, Bluemix and once IBM was near 100 billion company. But when she took AK's hybrid cloud idea IBM is shrinking rapidly, as well as revenue. AK just want to stay anyhow and earn money. Now he has screwed all of our Watson products, Bluemix products. Now going to sc--w Redhat products. Jim is smart and left before everyone would blame him. But he knows now the strategy is not going to work. He will soon join some good company.
But AK will destroy IBM. Request to all board members, if you have any authority remove AK and hybrid cloud strategy. All companies can do that. Just make good products, that would only survive company. Also, pay good raises and bonuses to employees. At least, Ginni was paying good raises and bonuses. With AK's time, people are getting useless blue points for bonus and peer rewards.
Sales people and Technical people tend to have very different personalities and skills.
It is rare to find someone who is good at both, so you generally don't want one doing the other's job - in either direction.
I don't really think AK hates sales people. However our clients actually dislike sales people without a clue. So maybe we now have a chance to yet again having competent people in front of our clients. Their competency should include being both technical, client aware and fiduciary ... something our current sales force lack to a large degree.
The root cause of this is our sales people internal oriented cadence call circus with little or no interest in clients and their needs.
It is really not very complicated to do this right, except most of our needed talent now left for various reasons.
Hit the nail on the head that AK hates sales people. He’s moving to a model where the tech folks are going to be the point of contact. He’s gutting the sales organization. He has no idea what sales people do and thinks that his way is better than the way Microsoft, Google, AWS, and other tech companies run their sales org. This is going to be fun to watch as someone who left ibm earlier this year.
This is worse. Putting Rob Thomas in charge of the entire Sales organization was a catastrophic error. But hey, AK hates Salespeople so he'll sacrifice the rest of 2021 in order to clean house even more in '22. He's a total @ $$h0le but not a complete 1diot I suppose
Absolutely not. It will be the same thing... what has really changed? Nothing, they just moved people around. They will sure try to spin it ay the next earnings call saying it is the greatest management ever!
I doubt it. First we have to get rid of many IBM lifer FLMs and SLMs.
IBM is to competent management as colonoscopy preparation is to delightful.
