Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

Time for an outsider at the top

TRP is so behind our peers in so many ways. Those who have spent their careers here often don’t see the issues or aren’t willing to challenge them. It’s time to bring in more new blood at the top levels to turn the ship around. The focus should be on innovation and operational efficiency.

They will just pick another never done much, from a nobody healthcare solutions company. To be head of global ai solutions. Sound familiar? Scratches head. Maybe another Fannie Mae employee.

@cr "Spending all their time building mediocre AI platforms that don’t work while our other technology falls apart."

Constant push to get us to use said cr-ppy AI platforms (which, in my area at least, are of marginal value) while basic business applications, like Service Now and Admaster, are patched together relics of the 90s.

They're technology fashion victims.

@OP not just at the top of the pyramid but needed at all management layers. New people, new ideas, new strategies, new way of doing things.

@1eq the worst is the freeloader who was with the company for the past decade or two and has got places just because he/she has been with the company for a long time but are in fact god awful at their job

@OP Well it was all of the new blood in the firm that created this mess. Back in the old days the original leaders were thoughtful on how and when to execute new products and markets to invest in. It all went to he-l when they all retired. Too many in charge now who are horrible at their jobs but can talk a big game.

It appears he went from SVP, Chief Information Officer at Evernorth “ Flexible and connected pharmacy, care and benefit solutions that move organizations and people forward. To Mr “AI” and axe man at trowe. Quite the stretch. Would have loved to hear those interviews.

A cursory look over that company and yeah not great. Unless you like class action lawsuits, and multiple failed rebrands of Cigna health related services

You would think, he would at least use AI to do his LinkedIn bio…

@ej I know some legit geniuses here in IT - yet they have no opportunity to be involved with this AI stuff. I know KIM J worked with RR at their previous job, but I wonder how this guy made it in? Maybe because of his lack of compassion for humans since he seems to be conducting all of the layoffs at least in our area. The day he held a 5 minute meeting for a huge group of people and then said emotionless at the end, "now you have to watch your email box for the next hour for a meeting invite. If you get one, you are affected" and then ended the meeting I knew what he was.

@cv I guarantee hr did not even look into or confirm Mr “AI’’s background or work history sufficiently.

Nepotism is a form of discrimination in which friends and//or family members are hired for reasons that do not necessarily have anything to do with their experience, knowledge, or skills.

Broski has no demonstrative experience anywhere in the AI sphere of influence or in the adoption and execution of Ai and machine learning solutions.

@cr Thanks for this information. CLP acts like Mr. AI and I have had to sit through those "pat on the back" sessions. I have nothing against AI, but it is comical how there is this rush to add AI stuff even when it doesn't work right. I see it outside of T Rowe a lot, but interesting similar is occurring at T Rowe. Maybe they need to replace the geniuses in NY with Accenture since they are so great.

@at the NY tech staff are a joke. Spending all their time building mediocre AI platforms that don’t work while our other technology falls apart. Then they have these GenAI meetings to pat themselves on the back, meanwhile all the capabilities they brag about are a lie and don’t work.

This whole outsider v insider debate is a joke. TRP simply needs smart, hard working people. If they’ve got external experience and new ideas then great. Internal institutional knowledge also counts for a lot.

There’s losers both at TRP and outside. One big issue seems to be the hiring of losers and the keeping of losers. The stud employees quit because they won’t put up with the stink at this place and the stud candidates won’t work at a place like this.

So who’s left?

@a8 Correct. How does TRP out perform its peers? I thought the genius center in New York was gonna save us? What happened to all those guys?

If Coach Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin can lose their jobs for not getting it done, why are they our fearless leaders all of this time and we still have outflows? They are stopping funding gaps like firing people and bringing in contractors - but obviously they need new ideas that will actually make a dent.

@am Yeah I try and send AT LEAST 2 resumes out a week - jobs are sparse but they are out there. Personal goal to be the first one to bail on this sinking trash barge.

Yeah maybe we can get some people in who can correct those outflows. Preliminary press release for Dec 2025…outflows of 11.6 billion for Dec and 56.9 billion in outflows for the year! What a joke company this is…can’t wait to leave.

Amen - a Visionary would be nice - this crew doesn't have any...just people who take cookie cutter ideas used at other places (DEI, Offshoring, No cubes/No Remote) and create poor implementations of those. There is a sweet spot where you identify where your competitors are doing better than you are and building innovations on top of those based on market/consumer metrics. That would make working here actually exciting again.
