Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Who will be let go this time ?

Do the trashy managers in deep basin and the trashier girls they hired will be fired this time ? They well enjoyed themselves using company’s money and managed to take advantage of their power and status… time for them to leave eh ?

Ha ! I know that pretty boy director. He sits a floor above me. All he does with his team are parties, client events, fancy lunches, field trips and partying with company’s money…I bet you he’ll be gone this time… He will go somewhere else and will take those trashes with him. That’s how these people role and how this industry works. He has nothing to lose ( other than his reputation)….they support each other like that. Already sorry for the next company that will hire him and the trashes.

Don’t think there have been any previous rounds so nope they’re still around. The rounds have yet to begin. And they will begin, but as in rounds past you can sure the biggest bullies and most uselesss people will remain.

Those pretties boys and bullies are still working for CVE or they were done in the previous rounds ? So disappointing that CVE as big a company with a huge HR department hires these type of ppl and even worse than that allows them to hire terrible ppl and friends under their supervision….

People NEVER forget how they've been treated by their leaders. You’ll always shout out the good ones, give them their credit. But the bad ones? Nah, you never forget how they treated you like garbage. And believe me, word gets around fast. They can’t outrun that rep, it sticks with them forever!
That’s why they’re so hesitant to jump to a new job. They know what they did, and they know people are talking.
People have more power than they think!

The problem starts at the top so no one bothers to speak up. Nothing would be done anyway. Mess of mistrust, narcissism, big egos, bullies and negativity at the top. So nothing will be done because the biggest problems are there.

@1bf+1jpag1e93 - It sounds like you are referencing IT!! How is this type of behaviour allowed to happen? Has anyone tried reporting via the anonymous investigation process?

Yeah, I know the pretty, flirty boy you are talking about, I see him in the elevator all the time, showing off in his designer clothes. He used to be real close with the bully someone mentioned here. They’re from the same culture, cut from the same cloth—just that the pretty boy’s more polished on the surface. But behind the scenes, they acted like a couple of high school kids. Always behind closed doors, laughing, gossiping, running their little inner circle. Both of them brought in a bunch of their buddies, and most of them still have sweet jobs, despite not really doing much. It’s frustrating. This kind of behavior needs to be called out, not buried. At some point, it should actually matter what kind of work you do—not who you’re friends with. Do we really need to su-k up to bullies and flirty smooth-talkers to get ahead at Cenovus?

“if race truly isn’t a factor, it’s worth questioning why, in some cases, when one person of color is hired, multiple others from their circle quickly follow.”

Are you assuming people are from the same circle if they’re the same ethnicity?
I mean it’s also worth questioning why we have to many white guys here who hire more white guys and promote more white guys.

@19g+1jpag1e93

The culture of a workplace is shaped from the top, and that’s where the root of the problem lies. People don’t use certain language or express frustration without cause—there’s a deeper issue at play, and it’s not about race or appearance. When individuals are truly qualified, their background should be irrelevant.

However, if race truly isn’t a factor, it’s worth questioning why, in some cases, when one person of color is hired, multiple others from their circle quickly follow. That pattern raises questions—not necessarily of racism, but possibly of favoritism or a lack of balanced hiring practices. If we’re going to talk about fairness and merit, it has to apply consistently.

Ultimately, it’s not about race or how someone looks—it’s about the mindset and behavior being brought into the workplace. If there’s a bullying mentality, that may reflect more about the culture those individuals come from or are being conditioned by. That’s the issue that needs to be addressed.

I had a great job in Conv which I lost a few months ago. People always used words like brown guy and trashy (which I assume goes out to women), and worse. I found a lot of people at the company spoke like that…racist and misogynist.

I've heard there were longstanding bullying and harassment issues at higher management levels in conventional that went unnoticed for years. How does something like this still happen today? Managers conduct performance reviews on staff, but how can employees provide honest feedback on their managers without fear of retaliation?

Every time an organizational survey comes around, they instill fear, making people hesitant to speak their truth—yet they claim it's all anonymous. We need to be honest and ensure our voices are heard. I encourage all of you to speak up!

It's time to bring back capable, empathetic leaders (who actually know the business!) instead of this constant reshuffling of bodies every two to three years.

So when they will send the useless ppl home then? I really hope the names that have been listed in these posts (directors....) will be impacted. Oil and gas is such small industry, people's masks will fall off at some point.....then hopefully nowhere will accept them with their real faces. Same goes with those trashes who get hired under those clowns. So unfair so see good people go and useless and trashes stay and get fed with company's money. Lets hope karma is there

@Will
Agreed!

I have never seen so much nepotism within management as I have in the Conventional group. People are being hired through a "recruitment agency," which is essentially just a network of friends who hire only those they know personally or are acquainted with the directors. These individuals foster a toxic environment and a backstabbing culture, as they do nothing but serve as the directors' eyes and ears on the floor.

It’s not about who you are or how much work you get done that helps you climb the corporate ladder—it's about playing their game. They just need a yes-man. They are letting go of nearly everyone who actually knows how to do their job in order to cover up their own incompetence.

Oil and gas is a small industry, and the truth always comes out!
It may take time, but it does!

I really wish they would clean house for once. There’s so much dead weight tied up in make-work projects, and some of the managers do absolutely nothing—just bouncing from one meeting to another, spewing nonsense. Their only real job seems to be writing performance reviews and reporting to upper management, who are just as clueless. I’ve never encountered so many incapable people in one place. The Conventional team is by far the worst! I’ve worked at several companies, but this is hands down the most ineffective group I’ve ever seen—they’ve done nothing for years. There should really be audits on these people.

Some of the comments here are legitimate. The Director in question has hired so many people it’s ridiculous. At this point, they literally outnumber the technical staff which is a complete joke. Most of them chatter and b.s. with each other endlessly, all day long! I’ve never witnessed a more useless and inefficient team of people in my career.
