Qualcomm did not want to buy IFS. It is Intel who wants others to buy it.

Qualcomm has been discussing purchasing IFS for some time now, and they are also interested in buying ProdCo, so they still see value in both sides of the business.

They have not been able to get the Board to agree to any deal, so now make noise like they were not really serious before or something.

As far as x86, AMD claims that whatever energy efficiency advantage ARM once had has been erased over the past few years as x86 made changes to the architecture. Likely the increased use of different types of cores is also a factor. This was a bit of a surprise to me, because I thought x86 was being outperformed by ARM, but that is no longer true. I see its main drawback being the lack of licensing and the company has talked about selling more licenses but so far no action has been taken that I'm aware of.

The posters on this site have hate for Intel and x86, and even make up lies about layoffs and hiring, so are of no merit.

QC chips are the lean low power hungry leaders !
Many want laptops to last longer than 4 hours !
QCs smartphone and laptop chips are money !

@hx not quite a decade yet. Everything was fine until the unexpected 2016 layoffs. Things dropped off quickly after that point. Process technology lead wasn't lost until around 2018 when 10nm was a few years late.

Companies, people and now general public are finally catching on. We have been making cr-p and really it’s been for a decade. We are just being called out on it

@e6 everyone was always a no. No one has walked away. Nothing changed. Relax.

@ch no one walked away. It’s not the whole history of Intel. And history is just that, history. This is a click bait non story in every sense. Absolutely nothing has changed. Zero.

Will intel improve fast enough? We’ll see. You don’t know. Neither does anyone else.

If Qualcomm is a “no”, then Apple is definitely “no” also since they develop products for the same kind of end user. Most likely Broadcom as well.

Two giant whales passing on Intel.

Who’s left?
Nvidia?
Also unlikely given their tight relationship with TSMC.

@c1 it is the whole story of Intel. Delays and delivering substandard products. By the time Intel gets it to be good enough it will be yesterday's technology. This can't go on forever. Major potential customers walking away from Intel again is not a non story.

Of course it’s not good enough yet. This is well documented. But it’s getting better. This is a non story.

Finally a thread where the comments are neat and even the criticisms are realistic. Thankfully the toxic troll bots haven’t shown up (yet) 😂

This is really bad news. Qualcomm had to put time and effort into evaluating Intel's processes. Other companies will see this and not even evaluate. There won't be the committed companies required to move ahead with 14A. Within the next year future process technology development will be over.

But internal PowerPoints and Circuit propaganda show that Intel’s offerings are superior to all others. Where’s the gap? lol!

“ We design all of our chips assuming there’s a battery on the other side, not plugged into the wall.”. Ouch!

Looks like they are not interested in X86 boat anchors.
