Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Is Collab not strategic

Nothing on Collab at Cisco Live. We were the darling a few years ago. Stock is at all time high. Should I still be worried?

WebEx definitely has issues still but let's not kid ourselves. Teams is trash. Both can be true at the same time

Microsoft Teams is awful.

it is, but not as awful as having to negotiate yet another sales contract with yet another vendor (Cisco) to get something as commoditized as chat/video/voice

Microsoft Teams is awful. Are we getting caught in Microsoft’s monopoly position and losing our lunch because of it? I can’t imagine why people like this software.

It would’ve been interesting to see BroadSoft go head-to-head with Zoom during the pandemic. Unfortunately, they were absorbed into the corporate black hole that is Cisco.

Customer here. We are phasing out all cisco voice/collab. Moving to MS teams because its cost effective and way better then cisco. Whenever something goes wrong it was always cisco tech that caused it. The choice to move to MS teams was a no brainer. Everyone is happy.

not talking about Webex isn't even controversial anymore

what's controversial is the radio silence on Splunk

for a little while they were pushing some strained narrative that Splunk was an essential element to "AI workflows", but someone forgot to add the laugh track

Cisco lost its collab since BroadSoft took over CTG in 2018. its UC solution became a legacy sustaining product without much new development. Webex lost most of its market and no one other than Cisco itself is still using it (yes it is horrible). there's no future planned after CTG literarily eliminated development in US.

so no, Collab is no longer a strategic product.

@ce Mora was the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts when he had that meltdown.

Ex Cisco employee here.. and I actually miss to work with Webex and endpoints. Microsoft and Zoom just did better with the licensing modell and visibility outside of business time (Zoom). SBG is another topic and totally shtshow.

Webex is dead from a marketshare perspective but somehow Cisco has managed to negotiate enough partnerships and placements that they will have no choice but to keep it alive for a while. Another zombie that must be kept on life support with no real ROI, just like most of SBG.

Run for the hills. Collab is the next thing to be thrown overboard.. Cisco collab much too complex and expensive a proposition. Cisco completely outsold and marketed around. The licenses should have been 10% of what Cisco charged - JC himself said voice would be a commodity - except Cisco wanted to charge the Earth for it.

Not strategic
They have the lowest targets of any individual contributors

...Zoom ATE THEIR LUNCH

Every time I see this I feel compelled to point out the founder of Zoom was an executive at Cisco under WebEx with a vision Cisco rejected.

Yes worry, and run for the hill.

Cisco had an early lead in VOIP mainly because they owned the "IP" part of the Voice Over IP. They sold lots of phones and call managers.
They bought Webex and sold it as a bolt-on to their collb portfolio.
did OK against Skype until covid where Zoom ATE THEIR LUNCH

now, Microsoft Teams and Zoom own the category while Cisco is losing marketshare by the bucketloads.
webex teams is a monstrosity that nobody uses and those who do, hate it.

they sell a $50,000 Touchscreen TV and push a bunch of AI hype with every collab sale.

AI, AI, AI, AI

so yes, you should be worried because the new Cisco is 100% AI 100% of the time and collab does not fit in that nonsensical business model

Webex is a horrible product. Why would they highlight it? Sorry, not sorry.
