Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How long has your job search taken?

I just hit week five and already feel like this might drag on a while. Not feeling too hopeful at the moment but trying to stay focused. Just wondering if others are in the same boat.

Unfortunately, the michigan economy never diversified away from automotive. Blame the Democrats and Unions.

Don't give up on your job search, posted 2 messages here, not at Ford anymore. Ford LL4 decided that I was one of their lucky ones to blame for all past incompetence. In fact, know who cut me off.

This feels like a psyop just like the thread here @OP+1k1nyj1j5

Like the intent is to make us feel like there’s nothing for us out there if we leave ford, and if there is — it’ll be forever until we land one.

I don’t know, I get the alibaba aliexpress vibe with these two threads.

Like fake fear

Just wanted to share a quick note for anyone still looking for a job after the Ford layoffs in May or later.

I’ve been through hundreds of interviews. My honest advice is to stop focusing on Michigan. It is a de==ad place with zombies. Nothing is really happening here anymore. Most of my interviews came from California (60%), 5% Michigan and 35% other states.

But be smart about it. Rivian, Lucid, Microsoft, Google, Apples - they might seem like great options, but they’ve all been laying people off like crazy too. Check LinkedIn and you’ll see people leaving those places just like we left Ford.

Keep applying. Even if it’s another risky automotive gig, at least you’re gaining experience. If you’re early in your career and can afford to take chances, it might be worth it. Myself, I have a family and I do not take any chances anymore which are like casino roulette tables to me.

Hope this helps someone out there. 50 states out there !

@c8 yo I was laid off in may too, I got hired in like 2 weeks. Try applying without putting ford on your resume. For that time you were employed, just list it as self-learning or something. People here are spiteful, you don’t want them part of your new life. Even when you’re free, they don’t let you be free. Clean cut guillotine is best

Ford lays off to often just like other automotive companies. If you've been in automotive for a while, consider leaving and diversifying your work value. Leave automotive and dont look back. Not reliable employment.

Agree with the comments... I applied to several companies, I got a couple of interviews, and I am staying at Ford just because of the salary.

Best thing for you to do is to move out of Michigan as quickly as possible. Find a job far, far away from Michigan and never, ever go back.

Move out of automotive, out of Michigan, next 2 years it will all collapse like house of cards, Chinese ev comes with everything no job left of suppliers here, even suppliers are diversifying in on automotive sectors, china has it all figured out. Try to invest in Chinese EV companies

Will take more than 3 months for sure, if you get laid off I f September that might just be well over 7 months due to year end slowdown. Move out of automotive, automotive you might get laid off again within and year

The market isn't great, if Ford does layoffs, maybe Scout or Slate which seem to hiring still.

A family member got “tariffed” out of a position at a Tier I Japanese auto supplier shortly after the announcement. Took close to 1000 applications before landing a position 3 months later. Agree on the low balling. It’s tough out there.

I was lucky enough to have daily interviews after 2 weeks , sometimes 2-3 interviews per day, but I have applied literally everywhere, over 1000 positions. There was only GM interviews from Michigan. Suppliers were not responding or low-balling with wage cuts. I ended up in the non-automotive stable and recession proof industry - farewell automotive forever for me. Thanks to Ford and their "leaders".
