@c5 no state income tax but property taxes are stupid high and sales tax is on the higher side as well compared to many states, most of which are far more livable than SE Texas.

Some people seem to like it, but generally they seem to be folks who haven't lived outside of Texas or Louisiana. You can make pretty good money in Houston, but other than that, Houston would rate as "Needs Significant Improvement" as a place to live. Quality of life is way better in many other cities across North America.
