Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

July 7th is when the hammer comes down

At least at Ronler. Mgmt gets flattened and some percentage around 20 get notified. Enjoy the holiday weekend, but the real fireworks start right after it.
Not a troll. Seriously. 25+ year 'close to the wafer' vet.

Management will sc--w this up. Some people will get rehired so make sure if you are one of them you get a reward like @ef mentions. I recall IT firing a Windows OS team that maintained the builds used internally (circa Windows 2003) when they figured out the mistake of removing the whole team they also found out that their branches in the software repository were missing and the backups were no good. Sc--wed things up for quite a while.

@c4 I remember the 2000 layoffs in Hillsboro. I survived and I knew at least 4 people who got re-hired within a few months. It was better than a sabbatical with their ext severance. Make sure you get rehired at least 1 grade higher and 2/3 of the way through the base pay and bonus range for your new grade.

7/7 is like 9/11, but sooner, and with less offices damaged.

Oh the humanity.

@ax yes. They are shifting everything to prioritize 18A. If you cannot directly contribute to that then you’re on the wrong side of layoffs.

Intel never experienced a mass layoff like this since 2000, so most people don't know how big this is and aren't worried enough. We're talking 50% unemployment in Hillsboro, Oregon, it's a small town with a huge corporation going bust.

Don’t worry too much. I have been laid off twice in my career. And I always got a better job afterwards. Rest for 2 months or 3 months break time, and life back to normal.

Man, I'm so nervous. I love my job, and despite the current dog sh-t morale and stress, I really don't want to get laid off.

@ax If you're close to the wafer but have a few written warnings, I would be scared. If you're always out on Medical leave, I would be scared too.

I’ve seen a range from July 9th to July 15. Probably depends on org. Seems like they want everyone gone by July 31.

Is the "Close to the wafer" still a safety net? Are they going to heavily hit operators and techs?
