Coming here from another company, I was just wondering if this is true? Is Ford about to have major layoffs? I was considering a position but I'm not so sure anymore.
Can we just hire Lockheed Martin? Slate and Rivian can develop a new electrical architecture. Mach E is running an old electrical... We had almost ten years to development something new.. Sticking with carry over and doing it the the Ford way pays a 4 percent... does not pay off in new innovation. Let's hold six months of meetings to develop some new KPIs to hide failure.

ce1 is over budget, already very late, with ppl who don't have vehicle know-how, and did not learn much from platform development of fnv, fnv2, fnv3 and fnv4.
Could have been much better if worked with folks who actually know how to design and build vehicles and went through platform lifecycles.

Skunkworks is the spring board for them. Can't wait!
Despite popular opinion, Skunk works is not going to save anything for anyone, at any time. Its a pipe dream that probably has to work itself through the paces for people to realize its not going to be the savior people think it was going to be.

@bc writing is on the wall. Ford's future will only be a domestic brand as other markets continue to shrink and will be dominated by the Chinese. Ford and GM as well, only make a profit in the US. Domestically, the threat is diminished, thanks to the Biden administration and I don't think Trump will attempt to roll it back since it goes against his "America First" agenda.
The connected vehicle ban that kicks in in 2027. This rule was finalized by the U.S. Department of Commerce under the Biden administration in May 2025 and not only impacts cars made in China, but also if they desire to follow the Japanese and Koreans in building factories in the USA.
The connected vehicle hardware can be done elsewhere, just not in China, and tariffs will impact where those components are made if outside the US.
Ford ki-led U759, it won't surprise me if other programs that are much farther along are ki-led as a cost cutting measure.
So cut more Americans and send jobs overseas. Makes total sense
If you are being offered remote, do not accept. If you are based in SE Mich and okay with 4-5 days onsite/in office, you can safely accept. But yes be prepared for reshuffling and new leadership changes. I would beware of any role within Integrated Services or Connected Services. This area tends to reshuffle a lot and cut ineffective teams in 1.5 years time.

I cannot confirm, but I feel a layoff in some shape or form will happen in September or later, possibly right before the holidays. DF will leave and form a new start-up making smart bunny slippers with features the world has never seen before.

Its a risky proposition to come to Ford at this time. I don't know what position that you came from so I cannot speak as to if its a better deal or not.
Pay close attention during your hiring process. If you are being hired in remote, get that in writing somehow. Don't let them gloss over details in the hiring process. If something isnt clear, make them explain. Conflict of Interest matters, Non-compete, ect. Ask for details. If things feel like they are moving too fast and they are simply trying to "get you in the door " hit the brakes and make sure they understand your concerns. Not saying dont take the job, but Ford has sone big question marks about its executive leadership at the moment. Think hard about what you will spend the next 2-3 years of your career doing and what cones next. Set boundaries with your ll6 or 5 early. Dont be a pushover when new work is presented and dont be afraid to frankly tell your leadership they need to decide what gets less attention because of scope creep / additional tasks of they will pile on until your performance reviews suffer. Don't come in full throttle expecting to kick a-s and take names because the minute you dont give 110 percent it will be received as a lack of motivation and drive from you. Good luck.
Yes, it’s true. Normally Ford cuts the new people first to protect those with “friends and family” cover.
