Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

WFH arrangements - NOT!

It was asked if Imperial would consider work from home arrangements for those who are not able to relocate. The answer was a resounding NO - as the Company values collaboration which is most effectively achieved through face-to-face interaction. What a LOAD of crock!! Collaboration can be achieved in many diverse forms, Imperial just wants to micromanage because they don’t trust their employees! Everyone knows they allow that set-up on select people (the “favorites”)

@a2
If it cane be done in WFH setting, it can be done in India.
If it cannot be done remotely, then you can't WFH.
Also managers a d supervisors need to rationalize their jobs harder to do in WFH situations.

They want you to do face to face and collaborate IN PERSON, while outsourcing everything to Bangalore, KL, BA, Budapest. what a load of horse sh1t.

Maybe they'll put everyone inside Atco trailers, but hey at least they have a built in porta potty and toilet that flushes

@bp whatever flexibility was had at QP will be lost in the rigidity of an operating site that is Strathcona.

God knows we won’t even have assigned desks.

Rotations and WFH is a blessing for couples working in O&G specially
one partner could raise kids while the other worked in the field or office..
But now… they don’t want you to do WFH because they value collaboration, yet the new masters in Bangalore… it’s God’s pod from where they will run the business at the expense of your family, livelihood and above all, our nation’s resources

QP being empty from remote working is one of the reasons it's being shut down. Maybe they'll let you work from home but you'll have to accept the same package as an Indian.

@a7 lol yeah right; it’s WFH that’s driving the layoffs. I bet you are still showing up 5 days a week to QP too.

Hard truth has to be said. WFH is one of factors to empty of QP. If management sees that and combines with all time high share price, why not shut building down and outsource to BTC for savings? That is the business risk all companies (Tech, O&G) would like to take, even if your quality of work at home is not 100% matched by overseas.

@a5 business acumen is not worthless, despite how much the oligarchs will tell you it can be trained. They've been shielded from this lesson thus far off the backs of the people who stayed. With this deep a cut they're about to learn that lesson.

You do realize that once you proved that work can be done from home it was inevitable that companies would choose the cheaper option.

Congrats. You proved that you were expendable. Now you can sleep in every morning.

I still feel the goal of headcount cut is more than 900. Allowing employees to wfh doesn’t help their final goal.

@OP the messaging is especially ironic while simultaneously offshoring hundreds of jobs across the globe. This whole ordeal is a joke.

Ironic actually, consider they are moving the work further away from sites. Is the site not needed as part as the collaboration process? Face to face moving forward would require heavy travel requirements.
