Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Reorgs in DTO part of IDT

Looks like the DTO LT has been recently informed of the layoffs planned for later part of the year. The DTO LT themselves are in danger as there will be multiple mergers and hence job losses at LC and higher JG levels! Not complaining as I clearly see roles force fitted that need to go. But, it's the 3rd major restructuring in last 2 years that could have been actually done in one go during TOM.
Not sure when will this stop!

Any more insights from anyone about what's going to happen at mid and lower JG levels?

My line manager was a lazy POS. Yes, I did tell him. Do what you have to do. He did, and he did me a favor by severance and to a way better place.

@n6 very true and consistent with the 6 different line managers I’ve had at Shell in 15 years. If your boss likes you, you’re fine. Of course you’ll still need to deliver and be a relatively high performer. Spend time just getting to know your boss. Surprising how much that translates to your IPF.

@dk

Let’s be real. Line managers at Shell might as well be untouchable. It’s time to kiss your LMs butt so you’re saved. This has nothing to do with days in the office. Days in the office is just a paper trail which will be used to justify the firing of people without friends after the fact.

Obviously, obey all rules and regulations including going in and try to be a good worker in your career. What I am trying to say is that if you think that’s what will save you, then you don’t know Shell very well.

i heard the same thing from a LG3 friend in NL. we are both in IDT.

this is actually a rumor that is almost a year old and refuses to die, but it has picked up again which makes me wonder if it’s serious

it’s also worth noting the that all of our similar technical groups have had a reorg but they never did. it seems only fair and consistent that they get a turn

@dz no, if you have friends preferably LC level, than you will be placed somewehere or they create something. It is NOT about your performance. Cuts will happen regardless, you are replaceable by cheaper labour or another FTE needs to work harder.

It is nasty politics, but he/her that gets earmarked can take the package and post something nice on LinkedIn about leaving shell and thanking shell an so that the new employer thinks it was your own choice.

@dk you just pretty much explained the sort of attitude that results in re-orgs. Coming in 3 days a week is a most simple basic, like being able to tie your own shoelaces. That fact you think that is enough to merit being fine/safe job says a lot. I would rephrase its more like, if you are doing a really good job, in an areas where the business is doing ok, and you do the basics like come in 3 days, you have a better chance of keeping you job.

As long as you come to office 3 days a week, you will be fine.

@cr IT had a separate change called phase 3, went live March last year, though DTo is lead by Tom. P&T had a number of changes in each sub area, unleash was C&P, Speed was projects group, then P&T was disbanded, different areas mapped to different parts of Shell, that was earlier this year

Another churn-the-pot activity inciting more angst and water cooler speculation.
How about actually pursuing business growth?
Nah - We’re just going to cut our way to industry leadership. Yay!

@bg TOM (Target Operating Model) was the name of the last reshape in PNT which started in 2024 and went live on April 2025... the immediate next day after TOM went live it was announced that there won't be any PNT from July 2026!
