Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Work slow down

I say we grind it to a halt until resolution takes place. I’m done going above and beyond while management plays this game. Don’t forget without people manning the oars and boat cannot move forward.

@yzz+1mbxjRJw can you please give an idea of which area was impacted on a broad level? Qual, R&D, Reg, Ops, HR, etc.

I have a deadline to hit by tomorrow morning... That's the only item my brain is allowing me to focus on, besides refreshing this page and getting tense anytime a new email comes in.

Lol if you’ve worked a minute more than 40 hours per week the past year.

Look at these comments and then ask why were in the position we are. Management has been terrible and embraced this culture where you're not doing anything unless it's high visibility or you get recognized in some way. It's like you view your salary as a retainer and will only work for some extra compensation. I know some of you have been drivin to that point and I hope you can find purpose in what you do at some point. I don't wish bad things for any of you regardless of how I feel about your approach to this. I think it's just a byproduct of the culture Medtronic execs have strived for.

Yeah, focus is difficult. Every time my computer dings for incoming email, a wave of adrenaline washes over me. I keep telling myself that everything is going to be OK, even if I get laid off. But the physiological response is still there.

It has been so incredibly hard to focus on getting my work done and staying on track with higher level goals. My anxiety is through the roof, and how are we supposed to focus on work when we could be receiving an meeting invite from HR at any moment that will pull the plug on all of our activities?

The suspense is ki-ling me and I wish they could just break the news already. Because out of no ill-intent I really cannot get my work done.

If you are what is left after the layoff we will all be lucky to go. Now get back to shaking you fist at the neighbors for stepping on your lawn.

The people not working on anything the last couple of months because you are nervous of a layoff, you must be working from home and I hope you go first because some of us still are working and have been this whole time.

@bei+1mbxjRJw yes, there will be a restructure - there will have to be given the expected size of the RIF, but also because it’s the one and only tool in GM’s toolbox

@bei+1mbxjRJw - Yes, overall reporting structure and job responsibilities may change across some of the company in conjunction with the layoffs. Then those who remain will be expected to get on board with the new structure. Again, I'm speaking from my own experience with the last few re-organizations since 2020.

@dyl+1mbxjRJw - My manager has mentioned a "new org structure". Is that basically what is to come after the RIF? I know functions have had some restructuring, is there going to be a larger one at the end of this?

Bro where you been. None of us are going “above and beyond” this quarter.

Personally I'm not doing anything until we hear about the new org structure.

I guess that's one of the reasons why my manager is very vague with the timelines and deadlines. Not sure if that's common across all departments or just part of the culture

If you were going above the beyond for the past 2 months then that's on you lol. No one I know has given a sh-t for at least 2 months ever since we learned mass layoffs were enroute.
