Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Strike.

Why aren't we striking like every other business in this country, 170k employees and counting fyi. Have any of you read the SEC filing? We get nothing and the directors and uppers get millions. Why is everyone so apathetic to their own situation in this company. It's not process tech vs. Maintenance or techs vs engineers or even employees vs managers. It's the little vs the heads. We deserve to be paid better, all of us, together. From the janitors to the department managers. We need to come together for our best interests because this company will keep bleeding it dry if we dont.

this is the best job a lot of people have had in terms of pay, benefits, perks. For NCGs it's their first job ever

also remember GF's offering is all market and industry based (whatever suits them with their explanation)

Striking is a terrible idea if you don’t have union backing. Non-union people are not willing to participate, because as much of a good idea as it sounds, at the end of the day, money talks, and while most are unhappy, most are not going to sacrifice a/near 6 figure salary. It’s a good way to get immediately dismissed.

CWA-1701 former organizer has good points - besides it happened under Bush administration - and now situation is very different under Biden & progressives.

Top dogs must show Chuck (NY) and Bernie (VT) that they're leading the industry marching forward under the drum beats of "equity, equality and inclusiveness" or face consequences of loosing massive federal and state subsidies - which hits them right in their wallets.
Instead of walking away (to @bbl, increased workload on your teammates, top dogs proved they don't care) - much better to wright a letter to your senator or/and congressmen !
That's greatest leverage "the little vs the heads" can use - and more "littles" will wright, the merrier. As IPO's approaching, It will work to get their attention - just look how much "whistleblowers" achieved with other companies! And harder to retaliate too. Cheers.

Walk away. The best is to find another job and quit with minimum notice.

Like IBM before you there will be a handful of organizers willing to put it all on the line.
The majority of 'complainers' will suddenly get quite and lose any spine they once had.
The organizers will soon become pariahs and will have to watch their backs as management and their helpers try to take them down.
I would forget about the CWA as they found out with IBM/CWA1701 just how many people in this industry have no guts for a fight.
A walkout or wildcat strike without a union may result in any and all organizers without a job.
I wish you luck.

Once an organizer for IBM/CWA 1701
