@bb You should really just send him an email at this point. Open door policy with no retaliation.

@d4 BK was one such engineer who went to management. When he became the CEO, one of my techs who knew him from NM said that we were in trouble and he was right, we were in trouble.
@OP: you should adjust your expectations of how “above it” LBT is to previous Intel cancer culture and his ability to turn Intel around accordingly. Wipe the shock off your face and listen to the many posters here explaining our standard snafu fubar
@d3 Actually just realised that some of the worse Techs and Eng became managers in the Fabs. Then got pomoted up the chain via building relationships with those above. Nothing was based on technical knowledge. Now look whre we ended up...
@cy I've worked in all Fabs bar Israel. It's the same everywhere. Best Techs and Eng never become managers. They don't want to on my experience.
That's definitely an alternate reality take and definitely contrary to my 10 years of experience at Intel.
Mind you, my experience was as an engineer in the AZ fabs so it could be different than the other Intel places that don't actually make the physical products (you know, Intel's bread and butter).
Most shift managers were hired on fresh out from school as managers. They may or may not have technical degrees but most of those guys were just paper engineers who had never touched a wrench in their lives. Additionally most of these guys (including the engineers) only had a bachelor (if at all) from some no-name schools in AZ or FL. Also, many of the engineering managers, area managers, and fab managers were simply promoted from engineering to management because they talk well and by extension so that they can't do much damage to production. This is where the FUMU came from. I had the dis-pleasure of knowing some of these engineering managers and always wondered how they could stay in one area for so long and yet be completely clueless to the processes that they supposedly watch over.
@ch Just can't do it, can you? Can't have any compassion for people who are stressed out & worried. Can't be nice even for a moment? Anyone who asks a question you don't like is just a stupid sheep to you.
Just to burst your bubble... the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, and Tooth Fairy aren't real either.
SMH... you answered your own question. You aren't smart enough to figure out that managment sticks together. Sheep like you will always be first to market and end up in the oven.... while they tell you they are taking you for a little trip to green fields to graze in the warm sun, and fresh spring water river.
@OP Ever heard the expression "the inmates are running the asylum"? That's essentially what's happening. It's been that way for decades now. Those who should be fired are the ones put in charge of determining who to lay off. For a very long time Intel has been about kingdom building. So it's not what you do or how well you do it that will save you, it's who you're connected with. You could be a horrible, non-productive employee, but if you have the right connections you're perfectly fine. That goes all the way up to the "leadership" team. LBT says he wants to flatten the org and remove wasteful management positions, then hands the execution of that goal over to the very people who have torpedoed Intel through years of back-slapping, favoritism, sweetheart deals, and nepotism. The only way to turn this ship around is to fire the bulk of the ELT and most VPs, then promote the best & brightest from within. But when the people who should be fired are the ones doing the firing, nothing changes.
It has been that way for years and is the reason why the comapny has rotted from within.
Because it is designed that way from the beginning the engineers cannot or never be able to fire the managers. Only managers can fire engineers or other id--t managers. Most engineers are smart and skillful people while the managers aren’t so they choose this path. That is why after major layoffs, only the id--ts are left.
I don't believe OP can only fail to understand one thing.
I was briefly amused when I heard that average workers thought their managers would get laid off.
Intel needs managers more than it needs ordinary workers, because your average manager has proven to have been an above average worker when they were an IC.
There are exceptions but on average this is the reality.
Please don’t criticize management. You know why managers are like cats. They love covering up their s##t.
Just remember middle management can sc--w up anything and everything, they have the ability to lie up and down the chain of command.
Because they are not being transparent for a reason. Part of management cuts was done prior to July. Then mass cuts of ICs through July in most geos - main wave. Then remaining managerial cuts and reorgs up until December. That's the way I see it.
This has always been the way at many places esp Intel..
The company controls the workers by implying loyalty for the management class.
Managers are protected, and only a very small number are ever impacted by layoff or performance related actions.
Typically once a manager you are shielded from any actions since you are under the umbrella..
So this typically leads to the "rot" culture at a place like Intel and now that the cash has run dry the "rot" just stinks a whole lot more.
Only the ordinary engineers are being fired, because they are too ordinary.
Def met is untouchable!
Hang in there. The bosses aren't being fired... yet. Still need them around this month to do the ICs. Because, who else would do it, upper management? Right.
The wealthy and the privileged protecting other wealthy and privileged. Weird. It’s almost like everything in this shithole country that has always happened is continuing to happen.
Because the manage layers are cheating all the time. They are privileged that they can do whatever they want.
I don't believe OP ever thought managers would be the 20%.
Pretty sickning. Is there way to give anonymous feedback to HR and LBT?
Easy to understand Capitalism dude, the managers layoff as many as they can because they think it will save their job, but it won't and they'll get laid off too.
Who promised anything? The real cuts haven't even been announced yet and this is not the last round of cuts.
@a3 this is the reality
Because managers that should be fired, are trying to save their own skin.. there are some managers who dont manage anyone, they just mange programs or systems and now they are trying to make themselves relevant to stay on for another year or so..
Because they lied (as always)
Don't let them take your red stapler.
perhaps the bosses fire the underperforming ordinary engineers and then afterwards the bosses are themselves fired.
