I heard people leaders discussing ways to cut cost and one being discussed is eliminating the HTHD job designation. The people they want to keep got their pay bumps and they do not want to pay new people the higher wage. Has anyone else heard about his?

Ford IT infrastructure/operations is advertising for a person to come in and do the work that was supposedly accomplished in 2021 at least according to a loud mouth LL6, blowhard LL5, incompetent LL4 and LL3. And yes one of the false accomplishments claiming GSRs was HTHD in name only.
Now everyone knew that nothing had been accomplished despite all the pretty PowerPoints. The illusion crumbled when the loud mouth LL6 retired and the successor was saddled with vaporware and an incompetent staff. The LL3 authorized bringing in high paid services to train and educate the staff for a year (all wasted $ as nothing was absorbed by the staff) Contractors brought in, but they quickly cut bait.
Still to this day the LL5->LL3 have not admitted all the reported accomplishments were false. And the whole team continues to receive a paycheck.
True HTHD talent should give this place a wide berth.
HTHD is a great tool. I’m not but have several working for me. They deserve it. Don’t bash or abandon it.
Some may have abused it, then hold them accountable. Call speak up if need be.
@6zfq you must not of been at Ford very long. The LL5 and above can do what ever they want with the HTHD positions. If an individual is liked, valued and a special friend of LL their HTHD will follow them, if not it won’t. The process is the LL5 or above changes the classification of the current position to non-HTHD and changes the new position to HTHD. It is just a couple of forms and rubber stamped approvals. It happens all the time.
This is the same non-sense that went on with tech-spec LL6 positions. The ever present Ford malady of middle manglement
Last poster is ignorant. HTHD is by position. I personally know people that turned down transfers because they would have been leaving an HTHD position for a non-HTHD position. And one that did it anyway.

Bullet #1 is not true. The HTHD stays with the person, at least in practice. One coworker was given HTHD (he was not technical). He switched to another position and the HTHD followed him. His successor in his old position was not HTHD. Subsequently the guy passed away, the LL5 gave the HTHD to another non-technical individual who happened to be the only black woman in the department.
I got the HTHD designation in 2022. A 12% raise, then the boot in June 2023.
I’d recommend not taking a risk on Ford.
I recently got an offer to come on board with Ford from outside the company into a HTHD job position.... I would say it was 20-30% above what my old contacts at Ford with the same engineering grade were making 7-8 years back so maybe some of the 20% is inflation adjustment.

HTHD = high tech, high demand.
- It is used to describe the job position, not the person. That is, if a person working in an HTHD position moves to a position that is not HTHD, they will no longer be classified as HTHD.
- Salary range is about 20% higher than non HTHD, though it really only applies to new hires. If you're an existing employee and take a HTHD position, your salary will not necessarily be adjusted.
- AICP for HTHD, in some areas, is double that of non-HTHD.

@3vwi+1qoZPAO6. Your definition is off. EVs are intended to be simple devices. The only significant innovation is in the battery chemistry itself and very few Ford people are involved. There is nothing very technically exciting about electric motors, it is a basic technology that has been around for decades. As far as the vaunted HTHD software, most of the work is turn the crank procedural - the methods aren't really that innovative, largely a benchmark of processes around for years. Doing tedious work quickly can be challenging, but it isn't exactly much to write home about. Once architectures are in place, most of the work will be easily done by low cost employees. That is the nature of the transformation. I know a picture is painted at Townhalls, but how aware are you?

- First they say oh GSR9s (old tech band) aren’t needed. The highest level will be GSR8 and all the GSR9 and GSR10 are now LL6
- Then they made rules about every LL6 must have a certain number of people reporting to them, and pushed large swaths of old GSR9s out the door
- Later they came up with tech spec LL6 concept and promoted people to tech spec. The concept was to retain the highly competent. Of course the program was used by many as a perk to hand out to their buddies
- then in 2019 they decided they didn’t need tech spec LL6s and shoved them out the door
- post 2019 HTHD was invented and like clockwork the program was abused by LL6-LL3
- and now the program is being broomed
It’s actually quite sad how incompetent Ford leadership and HR are. They keep rebadging the same thing and failing because the Ford LL6->LL3 keep treating Ford as their personal candy jar handing out positions and $ to all their favorite boys and girls.

I cannot believe a statement such as yours about Model e. Doug Field set up Model e to be the driving force for the company's future which by definition would mean demanding/challenging projects.
We will see the first results of this with the successful roll-out of the gen-2 Model e products and services. Just wait for it.
hthd is just tech LL6 repackaged. some tech LL6 were good. some not. it is the ford way.
@OP the problem is HTHD were given out by many managers as rewards to FnF instead of going to people with actual skills. Our previous LL5-SY gave the HTHD to all her pets and not a single one was skilled at their job, let alone technical. The current LL5 is trying to strip the HTHD from all of the people who have it. It’s such a s-show and this plays out all over Ford. So what is Ford to do? audit all the positions designated as HTHD or abolish HTHD? Sure there are some HTHD that truly are HTHD but a large percentage are HTHD in name only.
HTHD EV are some of the most tedious, unchallenging projects I have ever worked on. The only challenge is Model E leadership wasting everyone's time. It is hard to believe they pay more for this than projects that actually make money and desperately need help.
How would they attract and keep the talent they need
Idk why HTHD exists. If the job is harder just make the salary grade higher…
