All it means is that the jobs will be posted in India, instead of bringing them over. More virtual meetings from empty offices.
It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when
My team is filled with contractors from India and CA groups are now filled with contractors from Philippines
Everything is being hollowed out of US
Sad times
@p2 doesn’t matter, they sell in the USA and manufacture in the USA so that’s all it takes. Also founded in the USA
Isn’t Medtronic technically an Irish company? How does this change things, or doesn’t it?
@b4 as reported today, Trump administration has launched an investigation into imports of robots, industrial machinery, and medical devices in a bid to introduce new tariffs. Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act allows for this under national security.
As far as I'm aware, Medtronic doesnt really use the H1B for direct hires. Looks like about 3-400ish new applications a year?

And in terms of contractors, they've already cut those to the bone (at least where I'm aware of) because as Omar proudly stated 'contractors aren't employees, so the core tenants don't apply for them'
From a Medtronic business perspective, this one seems like a nothing-burger.
H-1B is the biggest scam ever, Has anyone ever met a WiPro employee whos skill set was so unique a USA employee could not do there job?
Shipping jobs off shore, not sure that would be effected, again its cheaper labor.
If trump really wanted to protect American jobs, he would tariff SERVICES provided by foreign countries (like India)
Outsourcing is the #1 cause of American job loss and him avoiding that issue says a lot about what he cares about.
@ac a ban on outsourced labor coming soon and raised tariffs on any and all goods built there. Their textiles are already collapsing. They are in the process of trying to collapse BRICS and many will be crushed in the process
This just gave Medtronic another cost savings justification to cut H1-B staff and move to cheaper overseas staff. Unless companies are de-incentivized for hiring overseas staff for domestic work, this is how Medtronic and especially EM will pursue cost savings to keep investors happy, regardless if we comprise product safety and ethics. Just gut and sell the company for parts already so we can rid of this terrible management .
