Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Notice 07-Jul out by 15-Jul? Is that really the plan?

I've heard this from multiple directions. Please tell me this isn't the plan, is it?

BK would probably advise LBT to perp-walk those who have been notified, but still is probably somewhere smiling just a little bit right now.

Fair question where the warn act filings

By this time, internally they already identified who should let go. Some groups will announce on 1st week of July and some on the 2nd week of July. With around two weeks left to stay at Intel, the last day mostly is on end the July.

@b3 a lot of people have contempt for Intel including current and former employees, any company who has had to do business with Intel, and customers. Watching Intel burn to the ground is just entertaining. A lot of people feel that it is long overdue and well deserved.

@b4, half the people on this site were fired from Intel in the past. Only about a quarter of the people here still work at Intel. In a few more weeks, that last group will shrink and the first will grow. Misery loves company.

@b3 I don’t have contempt for all Intel employees just the arrogant self appointed experts who don’t do any research. There are a lot of them. Most Intel employees are very nice people.

@ax Your contempt for Intel employees would seem to indicate you aren't one. I'm curious why you would be on a layoff site about Intel then? Are you here to insult? to "get them"? What is it?

It is amazing how many self proclaimed experts there are on this site. Well, maybe not amazing since we are talking about Intel employees...

A single search turned this up regarding the WARN Act:

This is from the department of labor web site. It is the WARN Act handbook for employers. It isn't the actual WARN act text but it is the high level information the DOL provides to employers. I am sure Intel lawyers have read this and the actual WARN Act. Noncompliance with the actual details of the law would surprise me.

There is also an workers handbook on the DOL site.

Warn act doesn’t mean anything. A company can either give a 60 day notice of pay for 60 days in severance which Intel already does.

Intel has not filed WARN notices in Oregon yet, supposed to be 60 days notice when laying off 50+ workers at a single site.

So how are they getting around this? First, if they don’t file or file late, it’s a pretty small fine in comparison to the thousands of salaries that suddenly stop. Second, some groups in other US regions have already told employees they’re in a 9 week hold, and that if they want what passes as a severance package that they’ll need to work to the end or lose it, and that covers the 60 days.

So it really comes down to what your job is. If your role has critical projects that need to be handed off you’ll be watched carefully through the process. If you’re a tech or an engineer in a role that reacts vs produces (most junior module engineers and really most techs), you’ll probably lose access to anything important and have a few days to clean out your desk/locker. You won’t be training anyone, you won’t be passing on your knowledge. Intel is done with you, and you need to be done with Intel.

For RA specifically, you will get an invite to meet your second level manager for a 15 minute block at some point during your shift/day, starting on the 7th, so back end shifts won’t find out until they come in. During the 2008 layoffs everybody got the invite regardless, and it was one of the most intense days outside the military that I’ve had to watch people struggle through. I think this is going to top that.

The “Great Place to Work” days are over. If you find yourself on the way out this round, take a good look at why you’re being replaced, and start building the skills (cough cough AI) that replaced yours. This is not the only industry shedding people who thought mastering excel or having great communication skills or fantastic attention to detail would keep them employed for life.

It is not the same for all groups, even within Foundry. But across all groups, the 14th seems to be the latest they will go out.

Probably out the same day the notice comes; why will they keep you as a liability for the entire week?
What I am not clear about is if the notice in RA/LTD Oregon is on the 7th July or any other day of 2nd week of July.
