🍦 No Desk, No Respect—But Hey, We Got Ice Cream 🙃

Back in the office 5 days a week—but no assigned seating.
Why?

“Some people are on vacation or sick.”

So… we all get to fight for a desk like it’s musical chairs at 8AM?
Coolcoolcool.

Meanwhile, leadership enjoys their private offices and comfy setups while we haul laptops like nomads.

And to "boost morale"?

They gave us ice cream.

Because nothing says we value you like lactose and sprinkles on top of burnout and chaos.

Even third-world call centers manage to assign seats.
This company? Just corporate disrespect with a sugar cone.

Traffic around here starts at 5am and I already have a 45 mile commute so I leave for work at 3:30am. Real good “collaboration” going on at 4:30am even though the office is actually 45 miles further away from India than the house I worked from for 13 years. At least I get to WFH for the 9pm launches. Nothing beats working till midnight when you have to get up at 2:30am to drive back again.

Spoke with a coworker in a hub who shared she gets to work at 0600 to get a desk after an hour + one way commute. I understand we will never aspire to be a great place to work but something is wrong with such acceptable requirements. Sc--w family time, got to find a desk and parking space.

I think ice cream is a wonderful idea! What is your favorite flavor? I like pistachio myself but I'm sure you all have your favorites as well and I can't wait to hear what they are! I may discover a flavor I never knew existed, and for that, I'm excited 😋

We were told ice cream catering is too expensive. We only get $6 per employee per year. I guess the funds are spent on anything but employees.

Yes, I have. The only options are to wait until we have some type of milestone anniversary and use our own awards for the entire group, or maybe the holiday potluck where everyone has to bring something and we might get a main course contribution. Of course, the awards amount have not been adjusted for inflation so it is getting harder to find something that is cheap enough to include the entire team.

Perhaps OP has children at home that need supervision to get on the bus. If perhaps they have physical therapy at 7am.

@a4 Appreciate the input, but let’s apply a little logic:
People leaving doesn’t increase morale—it’s a symptom of low morale.
Just like showing up earlier doesn’t magically create more seating—it just makes us compete harder for space that should’ve been properly assigned in the first place.

Telling people “no one’s forcing you to stay” isn’t a flex—it’s a lazy deflection. If the only solution is to leave, that says more about the company than the employee.

At Lenox, we got nothing. Ever. In my group we get to watch cricket, sales and marketing throw events, our group - nothing. They don’t even let us observe the festivities. Some animals are more equal than others.
