Adapting to a new job

I don't have much experience but I really care about this job. However, it is very difficult for me to fit into this workplace. A lot is required of me. Despite all the efforts to learn new things quickly, adapting to this job is quite difficult for me. I feel lost and discouraged.

Walmart knew whom they were hiring, they knew I didn’t have much experience and I find it unfair to be left on my own to sink or swim. How hard was it for others who didn’t have much experience to get started working here?

Walmart and places like it are a dead end. Please never use them employment-wise for anything other than a stepping stone to a better paying job or a more promising career. There is no future in this work and nothing to be gained by misplaced loyalty. Use whatever pay and benefits you're getting to find the next rung on the ladder and move on.

The easiest way to get to know how to do things is to just ask someone. Most people are not going to notice that you are struggling to understand how to do things. But if you ask most people are more than willing to help you out. Don't expect management to train you, they will just tell you that you should have learned that in your training. But training on a computer is not like doing it in real life. Most of the training is geared toward stores that have better equipment and more modern systems than most stores.

Ha ha. Very convenient. A post goes up, a sincere request by a troubled associate. An experienced coworker who has been there and done that speaks out and gives him the truth as he/she has experienced it. Then magically, an hour later, our old friend, a home office clone, replies with the same tired BS. But, I'll play along.

Actually no, I'm not going to go down that road. Listen to your seasoned coworkers with seniority. Go into this with your eyes wide open. Or better yet, hit the rapidly spinning revolving door as fast as humanly possible on your way out and find yourself a real job at an employer who appreciates you and rewards your efforts.

There is nobody here with the will and guts to unionize this trash employer and there are definitely greener pastures elsewhere. Anywhere actually.

I speak the truth but seems you have no ideas about what goes on at Wally World. I know. So just like Wally World no one wants to listen or fix the issues there. So here’s a thought if you don’t know, keep your ignorant unfounded comments to yourself.

In a new job, yes, you are going to be a little confused and lost. That would be normal for any new job. Even if someone explains things to you, you’re only going to absorb and retain between 3-7%. That retention level increases with each additional day, more training and mire explanations until the light bulb comes on for you.

Go speak with your supervisor and tell them where you need additional help or training.

Newsflash,
Get used to it. It’s the Walmart way!
Walmart hires people, gives them no training and let’s the new associate figure stuff out on their own. Walmart pays new people cr-p wages but makes associates do the work of 3 people. It’s a thing.
Oh did I mention they don’t give a cr-p about associates?
They let new associates sink or swim. As I call it, setting new associates up for failure.
No wonder why the turnover is so high.
But……..no one wants to hear it or fix it.
And associates get zero appreciation or thanks. Now who really wishes to work there?
