RTO policy - what happens if you don’t live within 50 min of mentioned offices

Question on RTO policy . What is the guideline if you don’t live within 50 miles of those 5 offices mentioned?

Am I forced to relocate or leave the job ?

the great WFH lifehack - get big city salary, live in low-cost location - is over

Without WFH most of the time I did this with jobs an hour away and retired way early. It's a matter of what are you willing to invest now for what gain in the future. I've been retired so long I've already made back the commute time and then some, and I never had to deal with trying to get a new job every few years in my 50s and beyond. It worked because technology was growing exponentially and there were tech hubs where an hour out took one to the boonies so you could settle in one cheap place and still have good job opportunities to keep building skills and income. Tech hubs have bloomed and the work is becoming more legacy cleanup so I'm not sure that strategy would be nearly as effective today either.

Whos going to move their family, home and belongings with a high likelihood that they end up getting LR'd anyway

right, but if you live in a major metro you can find a new job without moving

at one point in the Bay Area you could probably change jobs every year and still stay within a two mile radius

if you like in the sticks, where are you going to work when your WFH gig ends? you're stuck trying to find another WFH gig in a world that already did RTO

there's going to be a lot of real estate in exurbs go up for sale when people have to get back closer to jobs

I wouldn't slide my nuts to the other side of my chair for this place now. I'm sure not driving 50 miles or even 5 miles.

Its Just more crooked large corp scheming to chops positions, push AI and boost their stocks. IBM just did the same >>

IBM has enforced a revised return-to-office policy among its Finance & Operations business unit amid what is being referred to as a ‘soft layoff.’

Reports have claimed employees were told they must relocate to be nearer to the company’s North Carolina or New York offices in order to comply with the new office-working mandate.

Workers who prefer not to do so will need to leave the company, but they will be able to do so with a severance package worth up to six months, depending on how long they’ve been with IBM.

over the next few years we will see the re-migration of white collar workers back to major metros...Cisco is actually late to the party, most other major corps are already RTO

I know lots of folks at Cisco who will have to move, either for Cisco or whoever they work for next...

I'm surprised SJC is not listed under an AMER location. Why isn't it?

are you under LC?

I’d love to see the bathrooms in the Atlanta office. I bet they’re like luxury suites with full-length wood doors and high-end fixtures—meanwhile, everywhere else feels worse than a high school locker room

If I go into the office as being requested, can I still take my normal three power naps each day? If not, then going into the office will jeopardize my health, physically and mentally. Cisco should be liable in that case , forcing me to harm my health.

What 5 offices have been mentioned? I haven't seen anything about it.

I started as a contractor whose SOW stated "in-office" as the work location. Then started WFH when the bldg's closed. While they were closed, I was converted to an employee as a "remote" worker.

The only thing I've heard is that CX is starting to mandate 2 days a week back in the office, but I'm not in CX.

If you were not originally hired as a remote employee be prepared to go back to your original office locstion.

Not yet, though we’ll see how it goes in the future. There have been companies who have made those types of major changes, so it’s not unprecedented.
