Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Why are people bragging about not taking sick days in years?

That’s not something to admire. Neglecting your health or your family for a job isn’t dedication. It’s just sad. My kids won’t remember my overtime, but they’ll sure remember if I missed their games. Cisco doesn't reward loyalty anymore, so why sacrifice yourself for it?

So you're an old person who's worried about Project 2025? Sorry gramps, it's time to take away your car keys and passwords.

Sorry child but I retired early by getting in the market at a great point in the pyramid scheme so I made money while the masses are approaching $400,000.00 in private and public sector debt for every person 18 and older in the US.

Project 2025 is just the latest in more than half a century of published plans from "economic conservatives from both major parties" to keep people poor as I previously described. Too many at Cisco still can't grasp more than one simple thing at a time.

@as Love the suggestions of committing DISABILITY FRAUD and others thinking that's a great idea. $5 says it's from one of the amalgamating satellites who seem to have a sociopath problem.

Because in a bad market you can be replaced in a heartbeat.

This has been the plan of economic conservatives from both major parties, from before the Powell Memo to Project 2025, where the goal has always been poverty and desperation in service of the rich. Part of the sell is the valid claim that unions were making many people completely slack off. When the bill comes due for the more than $103T in private and public sector debt things will get a lot worse.

My kids won’t remember my overtime, but they’ll sure remember if I missed their games.

My parents grew up in the great depression and they remember being on the edge of homelessness the entire time. They taught me to be self reliant and I didn't have to take them in because they were also self reliant. Economic mobility continues to get worse in the US, all increases in productivity are going to the top (great for us old people who got into the market ages ago but bad for the following generations) and a combination of automation and artificial intelligence mean you're kids are going to have it much harder, and it'll be harder still if they have to take care of you.

Considering most WFH it leaves a lot of time when at home to do stuff other than work or be "sick". Essentially 90% of the year is not on the clock/ working

@as that’s smart. ELT basically gets a free ride. Why the F shouldn’t a few employees who are smart enough and have the junk to force Cisco’s end. I hope they enjoy every savory deposit into their accounto. I will actually begin suggesting this to people in my org who want milk similarly. Thanks for sharing!

The real trick I’ve seen is long-term disability. One manager used it to avoid layoff for two full years, and an engineer used it for about a year. Gotta say, both were tough and pretty rude personalities. But when the layoff came, they were the lowest on the totem pole. They were likely drawing around 80% of their pay without having to work. Not sure if they got severance on top of that, but two years of paid leave like that sounds pretty sweet.

You know what doesn't take sick days? AI. Once G2 replaces us with AI, we'll have all the sick days we never wanted.
