Thread regarding Ally Financial Inc. layoffs

Are they done?

Just the Customer Care people today, or can we expect more layoffs?

To the person who asked how the new CEO got his job after what he did to Discover card, great question but there is no answer that will make you happy. I (seemingly a lot of other people) truly believe this company needs a complete 180.

"I work in Ally IT. There are lot of people with Director and Senior Director Role in IT, who actually doesn't bring any value to the company. Unfortunately, they layoff the people who do the job. There are a lot of them in Director roles creating Jira tickets and putting PowerPoint presentations, done by their direct reports. All those positions can be eliminated without any affect to the IT, especially lot of them joined in 2009 when the Ally Bank started. I know Sustain/Operations, Bank side QA director/Manager roles can be eliminated without any impact on IT."

I can name 10 people all who are in Tech director + roles all who do not work. In fact at a happy hour I had one brag to me about how he makes 3x what I make and he does not open his laptop most days and just comes in to look busy lol. Cant hate because he hired me but yea its a massive problem.

For the most part tech leads and devs do 90% of the work in tech.

So thankful I left the company before this. Writing is on the wall and the culture went down hill. Over 3 layoffs in 3 years su-ks. So many website issues lol, the product stinks

After failed stints at TD Bank and Discover card, how the heck did he get the CEO job at Ally?

It's across the board. Every line of business, and nearly every team seems to have been impacted. Things may be rough right now, but tough times make tough people, and tough times are temporary. My heart goes out to everyone impacted by the layoffs today.

Similar actions in October 2023. Not enough employees took the voluntary severance package, then they came back and cut additional employees, many seasoned. Doesn’t look like voluntary buyouts this time. Probably because of their new CEO from failed Discover Card. Bet he’ll run Ally into the ground as well. Prayers go out to those affected.
