Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Nobody wants to work here anymore

Even talented young people are leaving in droves. It's taking them less and less time to figure out they made a huge mistake when they accepted an offer from Exxon. After that, it doesn't take them long to find another place where their talent will be recognized and where they'll be given a chance to grow their career, unlike here. Why do we even need layoffs anymore is a mystery to me.

Been here 36 years. Things have never improved or returned.

Exxon will be around for a long time to come. Once their cost cutting efforts are complete in 1-2 years it will return to a more healthy work environment.

@apj+1eyn7cfg I think I’m being incredibly capitalistic by going somewhere that values my talents more and is therefore paying me more to do it. That’s efficient deployment of human capital, having talent go where it’s useful instead of toiling away at a dead end dying shithole company. Capitalism is doing things for profit. Working at XOM is not profitable. Working at any tech company is. I can’t “go home to a place of happiness” at XOM because it’s near shithole Houston and because the company doesn’t pay me enough to own a decent home. But every tech company in the future 500 will pay me.

Just because something has been around a while doesn’t mean it will in the future nor does it mean it should have stuck around. Women couldn’t vote for over 120 years, but that doesn’t mean it was a good thing.

Young people (rightly) are leaving in droves because of the freeze on raises/promotions and the disappearance of auto promotions/advancement guide. The vast majority of those hired in 2019 are making in real terms less than what they did when they started, and this last round of “encouragement “ from DW/TG just added insult to injury.

You forgot about CSR, RTD, EMRE researchers and managers. Almost all of them are drain on the society and will not find another job.

We are going to cling to EM like there is no tomorrow as this is where fake exfoliates!

Ge-z, these blogs continue to find new lows. It's a job as well as a career, society has caused us to feel like the world revolves around us. Unfortunately, we seek happiness in the wrong places. Go to work, do your job to the best of your abilities, and go home to your place of happiness. It's a tried and true strategy that has lasted thousands of years. I would suggest Exxon stays the course and not subject itself to the times that lack a capitalistic approach, we have been here over 120 years. Just sayin...
