Remote Work Going Away?

Ive heard executives for the last few years have been trying to figure out how to end fully remote work. Has anyone else heard if this is true or not? Are they really trying to get people back into the office after they’ve been doing real estate reductions?

In North amityville NY we were told about a year ago remote work was done .. fast forward to today and certain departments were allowed to go back to remote or a hybrid schedule. Other departments must be in everyday . If remote is over, then the whole company should follow the same rules.

@156 that was very insightful.. thank you for ruminating on the fact we are ruminating.

@11d the topic of remote working going away has been beaten to death. The company has made its decision and it's over. All of this ruminating serves no purpose.

@148 IMO one of the biggest problems in this industry are the people that think they "own" people that are either smarter than they are and/or do most of the work. They tend to say "My engineer", "my finance guy", "my admin", and "I have a guy". You know the type.

@122

Big bo--s and making great sandwiches would work in most cases.

@11d how does one obtain or possess an engineer?

Remote work allows you to attract and retain top talent. My best engineer is 2000 miles away from the rest of the team. Abolishing remote work is short sighted at best.

Its well known that the smartest people are generally not the ones placed into higher levels of a company. Risk taking, yes men, and the dunning-kruger effect carry a lot more weight than intelligence. All great managers can point to many team members smarter than themselves.

L3Harris has almost completely new leadership from the top down. There's nearly zero chance they're smarter about the products and business. Sadly, not even internally promoted either. Its now a finance company with an engineering problem.

@ap If the company execs are so shallow and not smart, then how is it that they are at the top and you're at the bottom?

There is nothing illegal about what these animals are doing and they know it. You are employed at will and the company employees you at will. That means they can change the terms anytime they want. Unless you have a contract, which you don't, you're at the mercy of their policies. If you don't like the way the company does business or you no longer agree with the terms of your employment, you are fully within your rights to quit without notice. Stop and think about what you are complaining about. Is it really worth fighting over? "Only a fool fights in a burning house" . It's time to get out.

@aq yes even people out of state. There is an employee supporting an out of state site that is being forced into the office

@aq - They will either find a way to
Make you so miserable that you quit or they will slap a PIP on you laden with unreasonable expectations (that no one who works onsite will be subjected to, although their job is similar to yours) and either let you go after the PIP period is over or use the PIP to cut you loose whenever they feel like it without warning.

I disagree with them being diabolically clever. Executives are not smart. They play popularity games to get on top and then do their best to convince stock holders and their fellow board members to keep them.

They depend on the exploitation of smart people below them. Executives are shallow and shortsighted. Like goldfish. Why we don't treat them as such?

From what I understand at this point is the only remote work being allowed is if you have a full medical exemption.

The company is removing remote work, and reducing its real estate footprint. It is all in a larger effort to par down the size and scope of the company increasing profits to the stakeholders. L3 Harris will be a leaner, smaller, more agile and more profitable company according to their vision. That means fewer facilities, and fewer people with everyone working on site. If remote working were profitable, the company would leave it alone. But clearly it has not been. The leadership at L3 Harris are bottom feeders no doubt. But they are not stupid either. They are diabolically clever.
