Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

CTC cares… oh for **** sake

Excerpt from actual email text
“To facilitate a pause in our busy schedules and equip everyone with well being tools and strategies, your CTC leadership team is sponsoring Cares Day on 9/30. We will have virtual opportunities to connect and focus on self-care, and we are asking all supervisors and employees to refrain from scheduling meetings on that day. “

Caring would be letting me do my job, not having to reschedule 4 days of work due to the knock on effect of moving meetings from 9/30, and not having to tell the project, the customer, I am rescheduling their work

I am a CTC general manager and I could use some support or I am not gonna make it. Who can I call?

I'm a manager, and I'm in the same boat as my staff. We're all suffering, and we all need leadership support to make this happen.

I've been through enough resources and classes to know what I should be doing to CARE for myself. My mental health issues are keeping me from doing it. So I trudge on trying to keep a job, with a CTC manager, like all of them, who doesn't know, or care, about issues that are plaguing me and the rest of the workforce during the pandemic. CARE DAY is to care for yourself, so Chevron doesn't have to.

Is my manager at all involved in supporting me in making time for my self-care? Is he going to give me extra time to do the work that I have to put to the side for this CARE DAY, or do I have to work extra tonight to get it done? I need a freaking day off, not another deadline, or hearing that "I need to lean on you while I take vacation." Who do I lean on, because I'm the only one that does my job? This just gets old.

I agree that leadership is just checking boxes and not really concerned how to REALLY help employees address burnout, workplace stress, and out mental health. I don't know if other companies have done a better job, but if Chevron isn't told, nothing's going to change.

20 years with Chevron and leadership still doesn't get it. You create workplace stress and burnout, and after you fail a wellness survey from your employees, the only thing leadership could think of was to make us attend was Welles's classes?!?! Employees want kindness and compassion from our leadership. Employees want you to understand the he-l the pandemic has put us through and support us by talking to us as a team and see how we can make things better within our own dept.

CTC Cares, maybe they do but have no idea of reality, totally chewed out today by BU for moving work. Did leadership talk to the BUs or just leave us plebs to deal with the fallout? ….that’s a rhetorical question

@amqs: Agreed, what we don’t need is more made up work, undefined management objectives, and reorganization whiplash. In CTC, Projects less than 100 hours need no billing paperwork, but for workers the only metric that is not just a pile of made up fluff is billable hours: WTF is that. The whole agile thing appears to be all one long useless management circle jerk, hindering any real progress on anything. We have really lost our way. Agile isn’t, the cloud is ineffective because it is not fit for purpose, turning over base technology development to outside companies undermines key long-term competency retention and machine learning is only useful for a few specific data analysis problems. One day we will wake up with a bad transition headache, and realize no one remembers how to do the fundamentals.

OP: I had the same reaction when I read that email. What I find truly exasperating is that we are either too stup1d to recognize the utter ridiculousness of such an action or think that our employees are too stup1d to see through a check-the-box, completely useless-to-me-as-an-employee move.

As you said, for fu$$’s sake!!!

I mean, just give us a darned day off — would it k1ll you to do that? You can still make those EAP & other resources available, but taking a chunk of time out of my work day means I will have to likely work on my 9/80 the next day to make up for it.

As for folks commenting about slacking off while “working from home,” that has not been my reality. I can’t tell you how many 9/80s I have missed and how drained I feel at this point.

This is why I think this company has really lost its way. We don’t care about people. We care about flavor-of-the-month initiatives that align with popular culture — but really don’t do much for hard-working employees. I realize that is a broad-brush statement, and I do know first-hand some really great managers, but more and more, their hands are tied, and they, too, are showing signs of burnout.

Can we just cut with this cr4p and focus on getting work done and staying out of our employees’ way, AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY, stop coming up with nonsensical initiatives and programs. It just makes up look not bright and frankly really p1sses off loads of your hardest-working employees.

This is the funniest thing I have ever heard. So Chevron is STILL working from home which means barely working and on top
of that does anyone at Chevron really even work anyway? I have this vision in my head of whoever made this up is putting it on their PMP for some loaded value saving taking care of employees BS.

Is there anything like BBS card? It might be the time to invoke Safety Moments on these issues may be CTC leadership will refocus.

There would seem to be no limit to managements dedication to build distractions to keep petro techs from getting any work done. Agile my A$$: There are move levels of management, more opaque paperwork, and less visibility between project work and business decisions than there as ever been. Are we still an oil and gas, or did I miss that email under the weight of all the others during this “transition”?

This is just EB and her advisors trying to look like 'people persons'. It's a 'check-the-box' thing for up-and-coming management, probably came up with this idea in cahoots with RM and the HR gang. They could care less about your well being, this is just a trendy copy-cat reaction to that tennis player or that gymnast choking in Tokyo then blaming it on 'stress' and 'mental health'. Now suddenly a year and a half into WFH, everyone is 'stressed'. How can people be stressed only doing 4 hours of work per day, sleep in late, no commute, and play Fortnite on your iPad during Teams meetings?

Nike gave employees this entire week off for mental health. Don’t expect that from CTC.

I'm sure they mean well but this isn't helpful. What I really want from leadership is for them to leave me alone so I can be productive.

Where’s the GO113, where’s the target process entry? I have to raise GO 113s to pick up the phone. CTC leadership get to commit 40000+ hours without any evaluation of priority or benefit
