Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

The core problem with Citi is the MD gremlins.

Gremlins that instead of fostering an environment of positive growth in such a way that you WANT to be here and others from the outside WANT to be part of Citi……

You have gremlin MDs that rely on desperate people that NEED to be here. These are people who are easy to bully, manipulate and whip into servitude and long hours and sacrifice of personal time.

You can’t do that to those that are not desperate. I’ve seen quite a few already financially sound people on solid ground take a look around and “Yeah, no, this is not happening, there’s nothing here of any substance” and leave.

This in itself speaks volumes. The constant pumping out of notice after notice of “tough decisions” , “tough growth”, “hard messages”, “difficult changes” etc… is enough to deter anyone from hiring on to Citi. How do you draw in AND retain truly top talent from the outside given this environment. Sure, Citi can draw in the top talent but retaining them is another thing.

Too true. If you want to excel, stand out and bust it somewhere else that appreciates you because Citi sure won’t. This is shown via the message given of “everyone will be ranked on a bell curve” or “everyone is a 3 this year”. I guess paying for Jane’s extra extra raise is quite expensive.

Citi hires employees to generate revenue, mitigate risk, or operations/provide a service (that burns money and somewhere in between). If you can't justify your own salary and benefits in comparison to revenue/$/value to the firm, then you don't understand economics and you'll always be at risk of being let go. Yes, there are shiDty Ds and MDs. If you want to work and excel, stand out and bust it.

I agree. Whining about it is not going to help any. Do what others do, leave. Go somewhere else that’s not as toxic. I mean that is after all the narrative. Be toxic enough to run people off so you don’t have to pay out the severance. The MD’s are just reading from the script given to them from on high. Not much they or you can do about it but leave.

@ag+1kchm0n5r, yup. I don't understand the posters whining 🙄.

Sounds more like the problem is you and the other complainers. If you don’t like it, find something else and leave.
