Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Response to those who say this is normal

No.

This is not normal.

Not here.

100 years without a layoff.

Market crashes, depressions, recessions, oil crises, inflation crisis, housing crisis, lawsuits, wars…. AND NOT ONE LAYOFF.

This place was supposed to be different. It WAS different. This is not normal here, but now that we have opened this can of worms it is just another thing we can do to boost Penny’s pay, to add GPs from other firms, to add a new ELT member.

We. Were. Different.

Now we aren’t anymore. We should be angry. Those who are gone and those who are left SHOULD be angry.

Tired of asking how we got to this, any idea how we get out of this?

After nearly two decades, I was “displaced” on Monday.

I began my career at Edward Jones in 2007 as a college intern, never imagining I’d spend the next 17 years here. Back then, I remember the fear of layoffs that gripped everyone during the financial crisis. What I didn’t fully grasp then—but do now—was how extraordinary it was that Jim Weddle stood firm and protected our people. He understood what it meant to lead with courage and integrity, and he preserved what made us different: we were a true partnership.

Today, that is gone. Penny Pennington has led us down a path of outside consultants, tone-deaf strategies, and leadership hires that embody everything Ted Jones once rejected. Decisions have been reckless, and the very foundation of our culture has been eroded. Those who remain should take notice—you are now just a number. The safety, stability, and sense of partnership that once set Edward Jones apart are over. The writing is on the wall.

For those of us suddenly starting over after giving our careers, our loyalty, and our hearts to this firm, I am deeply sorry. I wish we weren’t in this painful club together. Right now, I am heartbroken and scared—but I also believe one day we’ll look back and see this as a blessing in disguise.

For now, I mourn not only the loss of my job, but the loss of the Edward Jones I once believed in.

@ag I’m gonna do my own thing.

Remember who you are fighting, or take the bait they set out for ya. If ya can’t remember who is responsible for this then you need remindin. PP,DC, ELT. None of them are a race.

@ae ain’t the place to air that friend. I despise the idea of offshorein’ our work, but don’t cross into that racist sh*t.

We had good people who got laid off from every background. You wanna call out the system, you wanna call out the country, you wanna call out the greed, you go for it. You start making it about someone’s race, you can get out of here. I’m royally ticked off too, but I ain’t letting the greedy divide me from the other people that got scr€£€d

@a4 lehamn brothers was a great company? The guys who almost 20 years ago were called the bank of evil? Now I know I am arguing with AI.

Whats with all the people showing MCD as a success story too? What happened to our Richest Man in America story? Now it’s “well McDonald’s is doing it”.

Technology is changing. Look at toll booth attendants or buggy whip factory workers. Even self service lines at McDs or Walmart. It's not your fault or that of EJ. Cost cutting to adapt to changing winds. Probably some RTO fighters to throw into the mix. Lehman brothers, EF Hutton, and Dean Witter all were great companies but change happened

@a1

When the market is tanking and you are panicking, call your AI chatbot for reassurance.

It’s the relationships, dummy.

I’ve seen the video of Ted schooling a new advisor: “You’ve got to call, and call, and call, and call, and call.”

Trust isn’t granted, it is earned. This firm just broke the trust of EVERY PERSON who works here.

Sow the wind. Reap the whirlwind.

@a1 and how is Reimagined going to fix any of that? Our fees are going up, we are hiring more FAs and leaders, I’m sure it took a few dozen layoffs to pay the salary of the new ELT member alone. Changing for the better I am up for. Changing for…whatever reason this is, is not worth the cost of peoples livelihoods.
