Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Should i be upset about this?

So a few days after taking a $5,800 pay cut someone decided to make me a red vest mentor. I was not asked or even told about this until someone took my picture for the mentor board. So they want me to be the trainer for appliances...more responsibility with not only nothing for it but a $5800 pay cut to boot!!!!. Ballsy and insulting .

So what are they supposed to do, feel sorry for you and allow you to do less work? .....YES . I don't want them to feel sorry for me but i certainly expect to do less work. It would be inconceivable for anyone to expect the same level of performance for much less compensation. As for the red vest mentor being an honor...well let the honor and the glory be given to him alone. Accolades don't thrill me . When i sent my accolades to my creditors as payment the told me they were unimpressed and preferred i pay in cash

To the trolls. If your pay was reduced like this you’d be RANTING. I know the belief system you have leads you to believe that a $15.00 an hour minimum wage is a great idea, and that if anyone makes more than you they are undeserving and lazy.
GET OVER IT! The History of the World didn’t begin the day you were born.

I get that the spiffs put some speacilist in the green$$. But that was what Lowe's offered them to accept the job. And that was what the agreement was. It would be like Lowe's offering you $15 an hour and then after working for a number of years your manager says we are now only going to pay you $10 an hour and expect you to do the same job with the same enthusiasm as always. You would be upset also. You have all your bills and able to pay them, then all of a sudden your pay check is 3/4 of what you were making. You can't just cut your bills, mortgage, kids schooling, by 3/4. What happened was wrong and sad.

We were told it was permanent, we took out homes loans believing what we were told was true. Now I my lose my home. First lesson as a mentor, never trust loses to keep their word.

Lowes offered me the allowance as compensation to stay at Lowes and not go elsewhere. I would have taken a different career path if that promise wasnt made. I was screwed along with many others when that promise was taken away.

Finally our appliance guys here more in line with what dept supervisors make than being two of the highest paid people in the store right behind the store manager.

Lowe's is putting the spiffs in their pockets. The vendors are still paying spiffs

So you are whining cause u have been getting free money for what .... like 7 years!! For real. People that work in those areas that got hired after the spiffs didn’t get that money but still the same job. If you ask me the company finally made is fair and stopped pandering to the long term babies.

You didn’t take a pay cut. They stopped paying you extra money you didn’t deserve which brought you in line with the rest of the world. If you don’t like it gtfo

Here's my response to your total lack of empathy for all those that got screwed out of their allowance... Where you in the room when my job offer was initially made and my base salary was negotiated based on the inclusion of potential monthly department bonus and commissions? Were you in the room when I went through numerous promotions and my base pay received little to NO adjustment because the store manager represented that a significant portion of my earnings (about 40% in my case) would be coming from commissions? Were you in the room when I had my reviews and went over all my metrics which I was blowing out of the water? As for making more than others I would argue that most new hires that were brought in AFTER the commissions and department bonus were removed started at a much higher base pay then we were at. Case in point, I work in the same department now with another specialist that is making more than I at his 5 years experience to my 15 (and my numbers are about 20% better than theirs). So is that fair? What do you think would happen if the board of directors told our CEO they were dropping his pay 40%, what do you think would happen? He simply say OK or do you think he would be speed dialing his lawyer? I fulfilled 100% of my obligations for all of the positions for which I was hired and the promises made to me by this company have been repeatedly broken. Where is your outrage about that?

As to the original poster... I feel your pain as I too am being expected to help train some of our new part time help. My numbers and gross sales are substantially better now than when the commissions were first removed but I am now doing an ever increasingly demanding job for about 40% less pay than I was making back in 2012. If it wasn't for my age and my need to maintain medical insurance I would be long gone. Not many places want to hire older workers so I do not want to cut my nose off to spite my face. However Lowe's, the company I have faithfully represented over the years, has lost all credibility with me. Still haven't heard a peep as to the results of the last employee survey, or anything else about this supposed "new" sales specialist bonus program. But again, words are cheep coming from this company and it's actions are all that matter. Good luck to you.

Look at the upside, you could be training your replacement.

I’m part time and they made me a red vest mentor; we’re all part time in my department and it’s supposed to be an honor. Maybe I can train the new associates not to be lazy like my coworkers.

The store didn’t make the decision to take that away from you and they still need to operate. So what are they supposed to do, feel sorry for you and allow you to do less work?

Get over it. There is no reason that you should make that much more than your peers.
