Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

So many job openings

Why are we posting all these new job openings while ignoring the qualified people we just laid off? It makes zero sense to hire outsiders who’ll need months to get up to speed when we’ve got former employees, some with decades of experience, ready to hit the ground running. What’s the logic here?

Cheap help isn’t the same caliber. I’ve spent over 3 months training a team from India who are supposed to be experts in a simple app. They have zero context for how things work and don’t seem to give a cr-p about learning. They were trained by another global employee after our local expert was let go. Add’l effort is money lost but Excom does not care.

Certain jobs need specific skills. MDT experience may not be completely aligned-some roles can be performed by people with experience in similar roles from other companies
And, sometimes it makes zero sense.

Management thinks you can put 9 pregnant women in one room for a month and make a baby.

I have experience with this. Corporate keeps pushing initiatives to the OUs. When the OUs ask for clarification, corporate just ghost the OUs.

If leadership seems disorganized, the situation is far more chaotic than it may seem, despite already appearing quite turbulent. The higher you climb the organizational ladder, the worse it gets. I haven’t observed any meaningful support or contributions from anyone in a global role. Currently, there’s little but discord and poorly managed objectives and priorities.

You can see that our leadership don't care about the long term future of this company. Outsourcing critical jobs to India will only reduce the quality of our products. By the time we see the poor outcomes from our poor products, our leaders would have already cashed out and left.

It's The Game.

When the Corporate Wonks can't find "qualified" ppl to fill all those open roles, well guess what? Outsource, or hire H1Bs.
