IBM looks to groom Indian talent for global roles and key missions
American software maker IBM has planned to boost its technical leaders in India by up to 30% over the next three years banking on India’s skilled talent pool by grooming and developing them within the country, its senior executive told ET.
The technology giant has already doubled its overall headcount in India following its two labs and client innovation centres set up in Kochi and Ahmedabad.
Of its around 282,000 global workforce as on December 2023, rough estimates suggest that nearly about a third are based in India. The firm does not share the breakup.
The multinational giant is also looking to step up in India by adding a new tier-2 city in the coming months and aim for 25% hiring growth this year in the new and existing cities like Bengaluru, Kochi, Ahmedabad and sub-regions like Hyderabad
when you pay peanuts, you hire monkeys
or elephants or birds
it comes down to this - when you pay peanuts, you hire monkeys. In IBM's case, those monkeys are in India.
As of Monday morning internal look, 11 jobs worldwide.
They want to remove more expensive internal workers to unemployment and hire 3000+ cheaper in the open market worldwide. Also checking Linkedin there are posts for all types of backgrounds.
It's been a long strange trip friends, just hope the earth isn't flat.

Did @a5 hit a nerve ?
No one believes that IBM can achieve the 1-1 replacement for US based engineers with Indian engineers,
IBM announced it intention to ki-l 9000 position in the US for 2025, it does not mean, it is already done.
IBM is shedding some product lines that do not require, actively hiring in India. For the active jobs that are ripped from the US engineers to be given to Indian engineers, I challenge anyone to provide verifiable data that shows it is less than 10 Indians for 1 US based engineer.
So let’s take your statement to its logical conclusion IBM laid off 9k of USA and Northern European employees in 2024. I think we will all acknowledge that. So that means 90k worth of Indian employees were hired (correct?) So why did IBM’s total worldwide employee population go from 282k to 270k last year? 4% shrinkage. Shouldn’t it have grown to 372k? I believe instead of the 10-1 that you have quoted, IBM has figured out how to replace 1-1 and pocketed the cost savings due to much lower labor rates, thus goosing the FCF and IBM’s bottom line.
I am surprised that the number of job openings in India is not higher,
For every position vacated in the US, IBM hires 10 Indians, in the hope ….
