Round 2 diversity metrics

So after this email from RM about the diversity metrics, I can’t wait to see what happens in my selection round. I’m thrilled we have the diversity coaches here to ensure we don’t just pick the most qualified person for the job, regardless of race/gender/etc.

Don’t @ me with some pithy comment about white males being held down, either. I don’t care. I’ve never been rated lower than a 2+ in my career and I can see the writing on the wall if I stay at Chevron.

@abg - it’s for two reasons.

1) Give the illusion of a transparent process. Rest assured they will select whoever they want regardless of why they say they are doing.
2) This covers them when you complain as they have a whole range of subjective measures / criteria that no one can meet them all. Good luck proving you were let go because of visible diversity metric, they’ll just say it was something else.

Focusing only on visible diversity is misguided at best. What about diversity of thought and experience? Sadly, selecting a Chevron lifer (or development program grad who has 0 work experience) over someone who has demonstrated external experience is what tends to be the default position, esp in support functions like IT and HR.

But that would be too logical and effective and easy, so instead they will take 6 months to explain why Bomquisha is the best pick for VP of Data Management, even though she obviously knows jack/sh– about data or management or anything else...

I always love how many consistent 1++ performers are who comment here and yet they always seem to get passed over by others who are clearly “less qualified”! Awww...at some point there’s only a small % of the 60,000 employees that are going to progress to higher management. The hierarchy is the shape of a pyramid not a square! Also let’s not forget that the people who have been in higher management roles are usually NEVER the most qualified, so let’s just stop that c-ap right here!

Given the anonimous nature of this site and the sensitive topic this thread addresses here are my observations:

  • threads like this always turn ugly
  • some anon posters are trolls, will try to incite an emotional responses
  • this topic is political, folks often start talking politics in threads like this - everyone voices opinion, nobody changes opinion, everyone leaves p-ss-d
  • the official rules somewhere in the footer are: no insults, no foul lang, no politics, no religion, no race talk, etc... otherwise they remove posts like this, i agree with this policy
  • i also agree with the orginal poster, but i do understand that there are folks who feel otherwise

To be honest I don't care if whoever they pick is black, yellow, white, bi or straight. All I care if they're competent and have merit. As soon as they pick incompetent managers and leaders game is over and that pretty much tells you about the company DNA's. This have nothing to do with politics and diversity but rather Chevron's ability to promote people based on merit. As far as I know Chevron can't do that so yes you will have these conversation about some black guy being a GM and not knowing what the F he is doing. Or the worthless /clueless Alice(ya) in the black greenland if you know what I mean.

The email mentioned job specific technical competencies last out of all the criteria. Telling for our future. This is going to make our company more mediocre. The chosen ones will know they don’t have to work as hard to at least keep a seat at the table. The unchosen ones will work less hard because they know that merit doesn’t mean anything. Lefty ideas pollute and destroy everything.

At some point as a consistent performing 1, and 2+ individual, I have to wonder how much harder I have to work at this company to move up as a relatively young employee to compete with my diverse peers. I don't know what message they're really trying to send, or realize they're sending with these stats.
