Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

2020 raises

What would it take for you dummies to see this is a dead end job and quit? None of you will see a raise this year, just like last and the year before that. Ohhh you got a big 25 cent raise last year!? Well congratulations but if your "raise" is less than the 2% inflation... it's a pay CUT! Don't forget how they cut your accruel rates and stole your accrued sick time either. If you haven't noticed everyone is hiring right now, you can go anywhere and make more money, and even be treated like an asset, not a slave like at Walmart. Get some damn ambition and improve your life, there will never be a better time to leave that dead end Walmart job than right now.

People get the hell out of Walmart! Its been almost an year since I left Walmart. I was in it for 5 months and let me tell you they overworked me like crazy. Honestly I am making double now with actual benefits. I am glad I left Walmart. Their were Walmart sheep that told me to stay that I can promote and be big in this company. I just laughed it out and said next time you see me it will be as a customer.

I haven't gone, but I am going to go soon when holiday season comes and pretty much. Only reason I haven't gone was because it closes early with the pandemic and I was an overnight stocker. Soon enough though I will go and just see how the actual store is doing. That store was high volume so the store is fine, its the workers that will get exploited.

For one of you have 4 points no you don't get a raise. But, I'm sorry I think 4 is a lot I know people get sick and I Also have children too but if people didn't abuse their PPTO they can use this. I have been with the company for 10 years and I love it. I love to work ...that's what your there for. So, saying your being treated like a slave...your there to WORK. I enjoy having lots of tasks and !any things to do it makes the days go by quick. If you can't take it, then yes maybe Walmart is not the job for you. Or, any where in your case. Stop being lazy!

Yea f— this company, nobody with 4 points gets a raise. What a f—ing joke, their so called raise doesn't even beat inflation and now your looking for excuses to take that away too??? So if we're really good we can make the same as last year (adjusted for inflation), but if we get sick we actually make less than last year. They sure know how to appreciate their "associates" who are working EVERY damn holiday for c-appy straight pay. Is there ANY reason we should stay with this company. Is there not better job opportunities EVERYWHERE right now?

My new People lead just told me the new scheduling app from Bentonville is only allowing 15 hours a day for CSM's. That's an opener and a closer?? She also said both she and the team lead are now considered back up CSM's. WTF Walmart? Our Customer Service Numbers are already sliding. Good luck replacing us......

Got my 1% raise at the DC, gee thanks Walmart a net pay cut with 2% inflation. Of course "rate" will be raised by 5-10% like every other year. We'd expect no less from such a greedy unethical company after the last 10+ years of net pay CUTS. Really gives the so called "associates" a reason to work hard and give a sh–. At least you didn't steal our sick time like a few years ago, or cut our accruel rates like last year, I'm sure you'll make us pay in some other way. I'm done with this sh–hole company, there are just to many GOOD employers hiring right now. I hope some of the rest of you wake up and do the same, 5 years from now where will you be at Walmart? Probably making less money, getting less PTO, working every dam holiday for c-appy normal pay, there literally is no upside or reason to stay with this company. Start looking, it may be easy to stay with what you know, you we ALL sure as hell deserve better.

@2zsn What is happening is that Walmart can't compete any longer in retail. They were asleep at the wheel when Amazon blew right past them. Now there is even more competition in retail.

Walmart tried to buy themselves into being competitive by buying companies such as Jet. That hasn't worked. Now they are trying to cut labor and pay raises to show to their shareholders they are profitable and competitive.

You can't cut labor to boost profitability. It works in the short term but will fail in the long term.

Yep can't wait to get another big 1% raise err uh... that's a pay CUT with inflation isn't it. The only question is what will they take this year? Sick hours have already been stolen, PTO accruel rates were cut last year, hard to know how we'll be screwed this time, can't wait to find out though 👍

1kpl.... WOW talk about clueless, Walmarts "raises" are the absolute worst around, especially now in the current economy. I haven't got a "raise" that even matched inflation for 5+ years, in other words I get nothing but pay CUTS! Meanwhile they've stolen my sick time, cut my PTO accruel rates, and got rid of any kind of holiday pay. And then your dumb enough to think getting 3 weeks vaca after 4 years is good? Most company's pay a week+ worth of holidays, a week+ of sick pay, personal time... ya know all the stuff we used to get? So yea if your dumb enough to not take that into account then yea 3 weeks is almost competitive with other company's. Just have fun working Thanksgiving while everyone else is off enjoying holiday pay, and tell yourself you really got it made, your just the dummy Walmart is looking for....

We all know it's not the best place to work, but of all these places hiring, go out and see what kind of raises they are giving. Many of them offer very limited raises which in the end come out to less than what you would get at Walmart. Now, let's look at vacation time. Last year I earned more than 3 weeks as an associate who has been there for less than 5 years. How many of those other jobs offer that?

Did you know that Walmart is the largest employer in the United States? Let that sink in. We are in a lot of trouble when all these retail jobs go "bye bye."

@aaq+13ixecGy I worked their for 4 months going to 5 and I finally got another job opportunity. I loved the people hated the pushing. If I would of stayed their long time no real benefits cuts left and right and work you like a slave. Honestly they don't care about you at all! When they need you they tell you to come, but when the dont they could careless for you.

I wouldn't be surprised any lawyer is worried to take on Walmart they are lawyered up all over, but the way you make it sound its an obvious law suit with some proof that can win a case.

Walmart isnt going to get any better only a few will benefit the rest will just be used and abused. Walmart keeps cutting and cutting benefits thing arent going to get any better.

I used to have a great paying job. Why did I leave it? Because the company I was working for closed our office and laid everyone off. No job offers to other parts of the business were offered. This was 10 years ago. I started looking for new jobs and kept getting rejected. The ones I did get an interview for, claimed they had to go with someone younger, but less qualified for their budget needs. I then had to go the retail route because my unemployment was running out. I got hired on at Target for Christmas (2011) and was told if I worked hard, they would keep me on and eventually make me full time. I worked hard and became a model employee in 6 weeks. Target laid me off right after Christmas, citing it was a corporate decision because of the budget.

Along came Walmart, as no one else was hiring or gave a c-ap that I had 3 college degrees and 11 years work experience in the advertising field. I was hired on to be an IMS associate and I really enjoyed the job because I didn't have to deal with the customers. Then CAP came along. CAP s—ed a–. Never worked and Walmart kept changing the way it was supposed to work and what they were focusing on. Eventually I was terminated for injuring my back on the job. Even though a doctor noted that I needed to be on light duty, I was put on leave instead, being told that there was NO light duty in the store for me to do. I don't believe that one bit. I could have answered phones or been a greeter. I was on leave for 12 days while my injury claim was reviewed. It is also worth noting that I had 3 occurrences on my attendance. When I came back form leave, I was told that my claim had been denied because the injury wasn't compelling enough. I couldn't even bend over and my wife had to help me stand up. How is that NOT compelling enough???

Well, the 12 days of leave were then converted to 12 occurrences. Add that to my existing 3 and I now had 15. I was terminated immediately. Of course, I was able to access the WIRE from my phone AFTER my termination and saw that my attendance ONLY had 3 occurrences. The 12 were never reported to corporate. I contacted many attorney's only to be told no way that they would take on Walmart.

So why did I work there? I had to. I didn't choose to work at Walmart. I had to. I had to pay bills and put food on the table. And to make matters worse, I had family members who could've made a few phone calls to help me get a decent job, but instead, they would only tell me about low paying, dead end jobs, even knowing my education and employment background. They had no problems making phone calls for their kids, so their kids could have cushy jobs. And no, none of them would ever step foot in a Walmart for any reason. It is below them.

Some people HAVE to do these jobs for one reason or another. Some us don't want to do them, but then it's either you eat or you starve............and Walmart management doesn't give 2 flips about you. Just so you do everything, so they don't have to get there hands dirty and they can sit in the AD office with their feet propped up either complaining that their feet hurt or they are snoozing away.

It's called tough love people, seriously why would you stay with this company? You enjoy working for $11 an hour on Thanksgiving instead of being home with family?? I think we all know you can do better, hell even Target starts at what $13 an hour? It's time to do what's best for yourselves and not allow this company to treat you all like slaves.

@OP You raise valid points. But, when you start off with "you dummies" you get down voted.

Yes, Walmart and Sam's are dumpster fire, bottom of the barrel of jobs. Yet, you don't know what a person's situation is that they hire on and/or stay for years at Walmart.

There was a post someone made months ago in one of these discussions of some of the reasons why people hire in at Walmart despite 20+ reasons why not too. Some of those reasons were a temp job while in school, someone has an unexpected bill so need that side hustle to get extra money to pay it off, an retiree gets bored in retirement and they something to do to keep busy and active, etc... I don't recall them all.

To your point, Walmart was once a decent place to work and even have a career. Now? Absolutely not. Why would you want a job where there is no respect for the individual, where you are doing the job of 2-3 people for minimum wage, where they are slowly stripping their associates of their benefits, no merit pay raises, not getting enough hours to pay your basic bills, having to be at Walmart's beck and call with your availability 24/7//365, putting up with some of the worst customers in retail, etc.....

So, try a little compassion and understanding in your posts.
