Heck, I'd do 5 days a week in the office!

You're an id--t! They got rid of you once, they will surely get rid of you again. Have some self worth for Gods sake!
@h1 I'm not sure why you say those are the only two options. I worked my butt off, and regularly put in 10 hours a day. As In said I was proud to work for Ford. At my current place I'm working just as hard but don't have the same pride.
Call it whatever you want, I call it liking the company you work for. I've only had that at a couple of companies and Ford was one of them.
You made too much of an emotional investment into your employer. Escaping misery requires not doing this anymore / again.
@OP. Brainwashed or spoiled? Were you brainwashed with the "Ford family" bed time stories? Or were you spoiled by being a TA without doing anything to earn it? Because that would be the only two possible and logical explanations for your behaviour, besides you being a m0r0n or a paid Ford HR "bot".
What is good at Ford? Decent salary and benefits, particularly if you have been around for several years. But the trick resides in not much work/skill is required for those. A very good specialist can make more at other companies, but usually work longer hours as well. An awful specialist definitively will make less at other companies.
What is bad at Ford? Almost everything, but life-work balance, and that is true for most, but not all. Some employees are burned to a crisp, while others (FnFs) are happy getting a paycheck for @sskissing.
Personally, I have reduced my output for a few years now, to "match it" to the team I was moved to, on the last reorg. Most of the time, I am bored. People take longer to do any task, so I coast waiting for them to catch up. BTW, I learned long time ago at Ford not to help anyone. Ends in credit stealing anyways, so why do it?
Now, FMC is not looking very healthy lately. There is no long term future at FMC. Anyone young should be looking at another place to work. Old farts like me, we are hoping we can ride a few more years before the company crashes and burns. If I am let go, or the company goes belly up before my retirement, I have already a Plan B. So I am not scare. I am guessing I am one of the few that can say that.
Maybe sadly for you, and fortunately for others, people simply have more options. Why would you burn yourself?
Sadly, many on this forum don’t appreciate how good it is at Ford. I suspect because most of them have never worked for Ford…. And likely drive Ladas
I’ve noticed some former Ford engineers seem deeply attached to their previous roles at Ford, which can make moving forward more difficult.
There’s often a lack of comparison with other companies, and Ford experience alone may not translate easily elsewhere. I call it a brain wreckage for years spent at Ford. Don’t forget we’re also in a deep recession with rising unemployment. Based on what I’ve seen, engineers with less than 10 years of experience are facing significant challenges since seniors go first.
My advice: use this time to take relevant training or courses while you apply to other companies. There are better companies out there and better opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Stay flexible—this is life.
I would never go back and never let any of my friends go there or buy one of those vehicles ever, this is s**t
Well they have made it clear they don't need you there. Layoffs are a result of organizational mis-management. We've just been told.its part of life to cover for incompetency.
No I'm not desperate. I already have a new job. But I'd go back to Ford in a heartbeat if they called.
@a7 With this job market, I’d be surprised if people weren’t
Dude, forget about Ford — actually, forget the whole automotive industry. Let them keep digging in their little mine till it collapses on them. There are way better places than that BS and those stinky LL4+ mugs and scu=m-bags with Jimmy’s dogs. I got a couple of offers real quick after my layoff, in totally different industries. Nothing came from Michigan, and honestly, I didn’t want anything to do with that automotive cr-p anyway. Having said all that, it’s not so easy for me. I’ve got a family, kids, and a house with a mortgage.
Move on , apply everywhere , and good luck !
If you do 7 days in office per week then we will hire you back!
@a5 What are you selling and for who?
What was it about Ford that made you so smitten with the place? Let alone willing to drive?
Yes this is unusual. Yes this indicates you are desperate. Also it indicates you aren't looking for alternatives.
You sound desperate.
Nope, I just liked working for Ford and have no problem commuting to work there again.
That's just silly talk. You're tapping into too much of that medicinal 'stuff.'
